Servers only get paid from there tips. There pay checks are barley nothing due to taxes and making not even half of minimum wage. They only get paid off of tips.

You do understand that servers don't get barley anything without tips? They get below minimum wage.

In New York state, minimum wage is $8. Servers get paid $5/hr and only end up getting $3/hr after taxes.

Is your food is bad you should still tip. The server doesn't cook the food.

I could care less what they make. That's the job they applied for. I'm 250k in debt from medical school, I'll give whatever I want/can afford and at my own discretion strictly based upon their service. Giving $0 tip is a valid option especially when they are not doing their job, which is TO SERVE ADEQUATELY.

And regardless of their attitude, I'm still genuinely nice and don't act like I'm above them.

I always tip 10-20% (depending on how good the service is). The only time I've tipped nothing is when the service was ATROCIOUS and the server was extremely rude and inconsiderate. Even then I felt bad, but I'm not going to give you extra if you are mean, condescending and the food is awful.

It's not a valid option when that is how they make they're living. If you're in so much debt then don't go out to eat. Go get fast food. If you want to be served, you have to tip. That is how servers make their money.

If a server is bad, leave them a bad tip. Like 10% by all means if they are bad, do so. But come on, that is how they make their living.

When I was a bartender I was making 2 dollars an hour. You better leave a damn tip if you liked the service.
