Don't make it sound like I'm throwing shade cause I'm not. I'm simply trying to explain how music festivals work. People buy tickets to music festivals whether they like/know the artists performing or not. All those people you see running towards the stage...they want a good seat, it's as simple as that. Who would want to stand way in the back even if it wasn't an act they want to see? Also, people go in LARGE groups to these things. Do you really think that all 10-20 friends in one group are all fans of the same artist? No way. They run to the stage together because they naturally want to keep their group together and not be separated.
I used to work for a radio station and went to these types of concerts all the time. You'd be surprised how many people are there just for something to do, dragged there by their friends, won tickets through a contest or simple because they like music. And you'd be REALLY surprised by how quickly these people became "fans" all of a sudden when they get a chance to get backstage or close to the front row.
Again, no shade intended. The credit for the attendance goes to the festival as a whole, not just one performer. And again, yes I am aware that Gaga's appearance helped with the amount of people that showed up.
