Ya'll are so damn bothered by that article
the title was obviously a ploy for controversy/intrest for people who otherwise wouldn't care
the Queen of Pop title gets tossed around to literally all our faves when they have a magazine shoot or something
Who. cares.

Please let this not be a serious response.

Like I've been saying since my first post in this thread I'd love to discuss when discussion arises, so whenever anyone's ready for a real discussion. And please tell me or at least link me to something to reply to, I am definitely not the problem here and I have never been one to be stuck in my argument (receipts in basically any thread ever). I'm not an Iggy stan, I'm not a Macklemore stan, I listen to all genres and all races, I have absolutely no biases. I'm ready to discuss.

Sis, feel FREE to join the discussion. Just know that no one is here to discuss with you if you believe that our argument is that Iggy is only successful because of her race. That indicates that you haven't understood the arguments, because MULTIPLE people have explicitly stated that that isn't true in their arguments.
I'm not being mean, I'm just telling you the truth. This is supposed to be a discussion. We simply cannot discuss if you don't understand what people are saying!

I think even Kanye said he hasn't won a Grammy in the rap category when going against Eminem. Things that originate in the black community often become "cool" or "successful" when white people do it.
And for those who keep arguing about white privilege. No one is saying being white guarantees you success or wealth but if you put a black person (or any minority) and a white person in the same circumstances, the only difference being their skin color, white people will almost always benefit more

see i feel like this thing about awards which is a legitimate problem if that was truly the case but it seems to me the reason this white urban artists keep getting these awards is because they're new and popular did blurred lines win best urban song last year? but is anybody here for Robin his era this time around?? we all know the awards shows dont award the most deserving hardly ever these days otherwise Janelle Monae would be slaying our faves. they award the song that sold the most and the artist that will get them the most press
don't blame white people, blame capitalism.

It would be so much better if we could just remove some of the sarcasm, snippiness, and GIFs when your point of view doesn't match someone else's. This type of behavior is present on nearly every page. If someone ignorantly says something like white privilege doesn't exist due to genuine ignorance or if he/she doesn't understand a person of color's point of view due to his/her lack of exposure to institutionalized racism, it's not right to mock that person. It's happens all the time.
This is somewhat off topic, so I'll just hope this thread going forward will somehow lack all of the negative aspects that hurt discussion.

Imagine several decades from now when rap is an old people genre and Eminem and Iggy are remembered as the king and queen of it.

Cuz they are.
The only people that seem to have a problem with it are the people who created it.

Just at the bold: The thing about people on ATRL who are like that is that they are not willing to learn. They are not willing to understand. So yes I'm gonna shut them down and keep it moving. That is much better use of my time that writing paragraphs for someone who just isn't willing to open their eyes.

I get what you're saying, but dude, lighten up.
You are on a pop forum for God sake's. Unless someone is personally attacking you, I don't find it to be a reason to keep complaining about a gif, when you can simply stop engaging in conversation with the person. Not that serious.
I do slightly agree with your last sentence in the first paragraph.

Very very true. The best of every genre never gets recognized, it's the most successful of each genre that wins at award shows. The truth is that this industry is driven by a majority of teenage white girls that are driven to buy music by other white artists (much as black people but music predominantly by black artists, Latin people but music from Latin artists, etc), which in turn gives them a nomination at award shows. So if you're looking for the root of the "problem" look there

Um I haven't heard that, nor has anyone in this thread said that, so regardless of what you "heard", that simply isn't relevant to this thread.

What you said isn't thought provoking nor informed. I can't argue with ignorance. Who honestly has the time? It's not like you'll change your mind or learn anything from it (proof: your responses in this thread).
