And since people born before 2000 can easily buy them, people born after 2000 will have access as well.
I can already picture the lawsuits.. Blocking grown adults to purchase a product that a year older than them can buy. You're basicslly baby-ing a population.

Most people I know who make joints buy the tobacco and rolling skins separately rather than taking it out of a cigarette. Also, it's legal to sell bongs in shops in the UK. So I don't think this would hurt anybody. I've only seen people use a cigarette as a last resort when they've run out of tobacco.

All that lawsuit is gonna result in is cigarettes being completely outlawed for everyone earlier than the government originally planned it, and that's just a bonus in my opinion.

I totally agree with this happening - it's people choice if they want to smoke, but as soon as they get a smoking-related illness, then it becomes the NHS and taxpayer's problem.

Overall, the amount of money that gets wasted on dealing with people, who have smoke / drink / or eat their way into obesity and get related-illness and require treatment at the expense of the taxpayers is unbelievable.

This law would help people to live longer and have a better quality of life and it would save smokers and potential-smokers, taxpayers, the government and the NHS lots of money.

That will be the only option. Banning it for all or only for those under 18. I doubt they'll be able to ban it for all. The cigarette companies alone will have a field day with the marketing campaign against legislation like that. "First cigarettes, what's next? Banning of alcohol! Banning of junk food!? Do YOU own your body or does the government!? Are YOU a grown adult with the right to choose what to inhale or are YOU a child that needs to be restricted!?"

Tbh, they have to be babied!

They're not capable of making decisions that will positively affect their lives, seeing as they choose to slowly kill themselves with cigarettes.

People will just buy it illegally like they do weed, cocaine, meth etc. And the government will have to deal with the costs of fighting illegal cigarette sales while also not getting the usual tax-money from the cigarette sales.

Where are they gonna run that campaign? They've been banned from TV for over 50 years.

Just get E-cigarettes, they smell much nicer. The cigarette ban is coming, they've been moving towards it for years, better get used to the idea. It was banned from all indoor public places like a decade ago and no one really cared that much.

I despise cigarettes but this whole thing is complete ********. Blocking it for people born in 2000 and above? So... someone born in 2000 with a friend born in 1999 still has easy access to it. It's not like it's any different than all the children getting them these days. (Hence the 15 year old reference in the article). I turned 18 a month ago and have never touched one, and will never touch one. I went to a private school and even still, the amount of kids who had smoked before... this is NOT going to work. End of.

Ban it for everyone or no one at all. A compromise never works.
