Debut/Greatest Gainer No. 16 "Maps" Maroon 5
Maroon 5 makes a record-setting debut on Billboard's Adult Pop Songs chart, as "Maps" enters at No. 16 with 1,909 first-week plays, according to Nielsen BDS. The sum marks the best opening-week plays total (and second-best debut rank, a feat it shares with Eric Clapton's 1996 hit "Change the World") in the chart's 18-year history. The prior record-holder? Alanis Morissette's "Thank U," which started with 1,520 plays and at a record No. 13 rank (Oct. 10, 1998). Maroon 5's "Payphone" ranks third with 1,410 debut-week spins (May 5, 2012). "Payphone" was the lead single from Maroon 5's last album, "Overexposed"; "Maps" previews follow-up "V," due Sept. 2.
"Maps" also roars onto Pop Songs at No. 17, tying for the sixth-best opening rank and the third-best opening-week plays total (4,319) in the chart's 22-year history. With the song having also arrived at retail last week, it looks set to make a notable debut this week on the Billboard Hot 100, details of which will be revealed on Billboard.com on Wednesday (June 25).
