I agree with whoever said they think Serena will flop. I've said from the jump that I think she'll three-peat at the US Open. I also think that'll be her last slam. Venus will retire when Serena does imo. Venus can play forever, she just enjoys the game. Serena, however, will never play long enough to start letting scrubs beat her on a regular basis. She's too narcissistic for that.

They're both ugly but I like Radek's game, he has a lot of variety and i love when he goes for the net play, not a lot of players do and can do that
I don't want Serena to flop but if it means Masha will go further and Serena will eventually go for the US Open win more, I'm here for it

BYE at FIFA. Thank goodness Wimbledon starts tomorrow. Rafa better not flop out early. Actually, in the second week, if he gets passed through it, he's virtually unplayable. But he better get through the first 4 rounds first
Maria... better prepare for the angry scalping. Sources say Serena is angry. h:

I don't think I can post on your wall.
Anyway I honestly have no idea who is gonna win. I already predicted Serena to flop but I have no backup plan. I don't know if Lisicki is completely healthy.
For the men, Joker.

That's what everyone says. People say the stars have aligned for him this year. I guess Becker has prepared him well.

I could go on for everyone but I may only do the top 5 contenders plus 1 or 2 dark horses because I doubt you'll all read it .
The Top 5 Seeds
1. Serena Williams
Will She Find Redemption At SW19
Quote:
|
Serena Williams has had a somewhat lean year compared to her hefty 2013 season that saw her lift 11 titles from 13 finals and 2 of the 4 slams she contested it. Riddled with niggling injuries in 2014 and aging on the wrong side of 30, one has to wonder if this is a decline she's going through or she's just fatigued after 2 years of being the most dominant player on tour since Steffi in the mid 1990s. After shock exits at the Australian Open (l. to Ivanovic in R4) and the French (l. to Muguruza in R2) she is coming into Wimbledon hungrier than ever to reach number 18 to tie Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. If we're going by her words at her Wimbledon press conference, she is not over her loss to Muguruza at the French. Look for Serena to continue her march and prove her doubters wrong as she's been doing since 2004.
|
2. Li Na
Can Li Conquer The Lawns of Wimbledon?
Quote:
|
For Li Na, 2014 had the best start she could have asked for, two titles back to back which included the first grand slam of the year at the Australian Open. Since then, she's fizzled out a bit and suffered an early exit at the year's second slam at the French (l. to Mladenovic in R1). She, like Serena, is in the twilight of her career and wants to make a final splash before she packs it up for good. While hard is her best surface, her game produces great results on grass, as evidenced by 3 QFs at Wimbledon (2006, 2010, 2013). She should be well rested from Roland Garros. Look for the world number 2 to be in the second week of SW19 and possibly going even further
|
3. Simona Halep
Is Halep Grand Slam Ready?
Quote:
Halep has had an up and down year so far which includes a few early surprise losses and a title in Doha. She made her first QF at a slam at the Australian where she lost to Dominika Cibulkova. It is at the French however where she has made her breakthrough, going all the way to the finals and fighting valiantly before succumbing to the Sugar Peddlar Maria Sharapova in 3 sets. She is no slouch on grass either, having won Budapest in 2013 and is coming to Wimbledon on a confidence high and a new peak ranking. Should she strike gold again, another final could be in the books for her
|
4. Agnieszka Radwanska
Can Aga Recreate Magic In 2014?
Quote:
|
Aga was in the Wimbledon final in 2012 before falling to the mighty Serena Williams in 3 sets. With her game being a good fit for grass you would expect her to go far again, but this year has not been the year she would like. After making the semis if Wimbledon in 2013 she looked destined to go a bit further at the following slams but fell short each and every time. At the Australian, she produced possibly the best match of the year and crashed out to Cibulkova in the next round. At the French, on her least favorite surface, she quietly fell down to Ajla Tomljanovic in R4 and is entering Wimbledon with a 2 match losing streak (she lost her opener in Eastbourne). She is one of the seeds that could have the hardest time making the second week here at the All England Club
|
5. Maria Sharapova
A Decade Of Glory
Quote:
|
A decade after winning her first, Maria Sharapova looks to find Wimbledon no. 2. Her year started off sluggish, especially at the Australian Open where she fell to Dominika Cibulkova in R4 but after the clay season, she's reasserted dominance not seen since 2012 from her and is far and ahead the leader in the Race to Singapore. The main obstacle though is that she's become somewhat of a clay extraordinaire and her grass game isn't what it's used to be, as evidenced by her shock loss to portuguese qualifier Michele Larcher De Brito last year in R2. Winning the French and Wimbledon back to back is no easy task, as the last person to do so was Serena Williams during her famous "Serena Slam" back in 2002. However, if Sharapova can channel her days of 2004 where this blonde bombshell rocked the tennis world (and Serena Williams), we could see a new (and successful) era for this Russian Beauty
|
Dark Horses
Ana Ivanovic
Quote:
|
In 2014 Ana Ivanovic enjoyed a much needed renaissance. Not since 2008 has she won this many matches against the top 10 (5 wins). She's also the WTA match win leader of the year with 38 wins to her name plus 3 titles, including her grass warmup in Birmingham. Grass is not her best surface but her game should match up well on it. Look for her to pull off another surprise win a la her Australian win over Serena
|
Petra Kvitova
Quote:
|
This former Wimbledon champion knows her way around the court. In 2011 she surprised Maria Sharapova in her (Petra) first Wimbledon final to snatch her first, and only thus far, Grand Slam in her career. After capping off 2011 with the Year End Championship title (the first woman since Maria Sharapova to win it on her debut appearance), she has fallen off the map a bit, producing erratic results with her even more erratic play. She could win the whole tournament or lose the first round. Look for a glorious third round encounter with 5-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams
|
Venus Williams
Quote:
|
Is it fair to call a five time Wimbledon champion a dark horse at this tournament? Venus Williams' 2014 has been the best year for her since 2010 in terms of big results. She showed some 2000 vintage form in Dubai, where she won it all, taking out an in form Ivanovic for some revenge along the way. She fell early at both the Australian and the French, but both of those are her two weakest slams anyway. She comes alive on the freshly cut lawns at SW19 and if she's feeling healthy, no one would be surprised if she captured number 8 here. A tasty battle with Petra Kvitova could set the tone for this out-of-prime star

Predictions
full draw
Serena's Quarter of Death
Quote:
If Serena wants to become a 6-time Wimbledon Champion, she surely has he work cut out for her. Many dangerous foes are in her side of the draw, including the woman who conquered her in 2004 and 2014 French Open Champion Maria Sharapova.
Serena Williams opens up against Anna Tatishvili and could be on course with a good third round encounter with Alize Cornet, the woman who stopped the All-Williams final in 2014 Dubai. Things don't get easier from there as in R4 she could face either Eugenie Bouchard or Andrea Petkovic, two of the four Roland Garros slam finalists.
Serena's Quarter
Serena will always be the De Facto favorite considering her number one ranking, but is it still She vs the rest of the field? We're not so sure anymore as she comes into Wimbledon slamless for the first time since 2012. Serena's serve and lethal strokes are even more deadly on the green grass here at Wimbledon though so another shock early exit does not have a high chance of happening. Petkovic and Bouchard also loom in this quarter.
Maria Sharapova is the other favorite in this part of the draw. With 2 of the 5 Wimbledon favorites in one Quarter, this is nicknamed the "Quarter of Death". Maria comes into Wimbledon with a French Open title behind her back for the second time in her career. The Russian opens up with British wildcard Samantha Murray in the first round, could face Anastasia Pavyluchenkova in the third round, and is on course to set up a 19th showdown in the "rivalry" of Serena-Maria. Serena is riding on a 15 match win streak over the Russian, look for Serena to make it out of this Quarter as the victor
Prediction: Serena Williams
Halep's Quarter
Simona Halep will now have many people counting on her to go far in every tournament she enters after her final appearance in Paris. Her campaign opens up against Teliana Pereira. She's slated to meet Sorana Cirstea in R3 and either Roberta Vinci (unlikely) or Carla Suarez Navarro in R4 should the seedings hold.
Jelena Jankovic is the other big name in this Quarter. Two R4 showings at the first two majors aren't bad results for JJ, but they aren't great either. She probably has the toughest opener against grass court specialist Kaia Kanepi in the first round, another grass court specialist in Yaraslova Shvedova in the second round, Eastbourne winner Madison Keys (or Monica Puig) in the third round, and either Sabine Lisicki or Ana Ivanovic in R4.
Prediction: Simona Halep
Radwanska's Quarter
Aga Radwanska has been given a soft draw for her standards but that doesn't mean she's going to make it out alive. After all, she opens Andreea Mitu in R1, could face Svetlana Kuznetsova in R2, and Caroline Garcia or Sara Errani in R3. With how poor of a form she's in, even this draw is dangerous
Victoria Azarenka is the other big name in this section of the draw. She's been out of form as of late because she's come back from injuries but she still has her competitive spirit. She has a tricky opener against Mirjana Lucic-Baroni, a former Wimbledon semifinalist, and could face Serena's conquerer, Gabine Muguruza, in R2. Should she and Aga somehow make it through, they are slated to meet in the Quarters and while the Belorussian leads 12-4 in the H2H, she's out of form and Aga actually stole their last meeting in the best match of the season at the Australian Open
Prediction: Garbine Muguruza
Li's Quarter
In the top half of this draw lies 2011 Champion Kvitova and 5-time Champion Venus Williams. If Petra is to have a shot at raising the Venus Rosewater Dish, she'll have a tricky opener with Andrea Hlavackova to set up a blockbuster match with the elder Williams Sister. That winner could meet either Sloane Stephens (2013 Wimbledon Quarterfinalist) or Flavia Pennetta in R4
Li Na is on the bottom of this quarter and she is also in a soft part of the draw, looking for her first title on grass. Her first two rounds are simple before she could face grass court specialist and 2013 Eastbourne Champion Elena Vesnina in R3. Caroline Wozniacki is also in this part of the draw and while she has her hands full with Sam Stosur in R3, she should make it through to face Li Na in R4.
Prediction: Venus Williams
Semi-Finals
Serena vs Halep
Quote:
This is the match-up we've been wanting to see for a long time. They haven't met since 2013 Cincinnati where Simona was still gaining her sea legs. She's flourished since then and is ready to be at the top echelon of the sport where she belongs. However, Serena may just be too much for her on grass at this location for her first time. This could be over in 2 or 3 but either way there's going to be only one winner
Prediction: Serena Williams
|
Muguruza vs Venus
Quote:
Venus Williams, if she does happen to make it this far, would be looking for revenge for little sister. Garbine Muguruza has cashed in on Serena's defeat (she's gained a Mercedes Benz sponsorship) and is in the form of her life. A little hiccup against Coco Vandeweghe at Den Bosch shouldn't linger too long. But Williams is still this generation's greatest mover on grass and she would just be too much for Muguruza this time. Expect a fantastic 3 set affair going the way of Venus
Prediction: Venus Williams
|
Finals
Serena vs Venus
Quote:
|
This may be the last slam final we will have an All Williams final in, but what better stage could we get? If Both sisters play their best on grass, predicting a winner is nearly impossible. Both are 5 time champs and no matter who wins, a Williams is guaranteed to bring home the trophy. Assuming both get it this far, it means that Venus is playing spectacular ball because she cannot afford slow starts anymore. Serena, however, could still play sloppy and still come to the finals. I don't think that'll happen but it's possible folks.
