A scientific theory is a well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world that is acquired through the scientific method, and repeatedly confirmed through observation and experimentation.

Religious education is exactly what put me off religion. First of all, except for one little topic we never looked at any religions other than Catholicism which defeats the purpose a bit. That's perfectly fine, providing it was in the context of a for/against/opinion exam type question. It's not them trying to brainwash you, but to help you understand other people's points of view & sides of the argument, so you can therefore use that to construct/relate it to your own opinion.

I'm agnostic, but this is BS. With your type of attitude you only continue that cycle of hate towards the other side. You can stop it by actually being more open and not judge someone once you find out they are atheist. I find it interesting though, you have yet to explain the reasoning on why you think creationism is more valid than evolution. I want to see what you think upon this, please elaborate or don't make such statements like you did earlier.

Yes definitely. Religion and science are not the same and so should be taught separately in respective classes with teachers trained properly in their fields.

Yes education, but it doesn't necessarily have to be in the form of a religous studies class. I despise this stupid hatred against Islam in the US ever since 9/11 but I don't think a religious studies class will solve the problem. We need society to just become more tolerant of peoples differences . Idk, I just feel religion class is a no go for me at least.

Well right now im legit scared to Even point out a few things because I feel like I will be dragged. Ppl here can be so viscious when someone aposes what they believe in. I'm legit unable to continue in this thread mainly because as much as I'll try and explain myself ppl will keep dragging me on the comment on the first page and I don't feel like explaining everything all the time to everyone.

Unfortunately, not everybody has the same mindset as you. Some people who are raised in intolerant households adopt these ideas & would act on them if they didn't have something like RS to help them understand the reasoning behind their beliefs.

You don't think that informing people how Islam works and that all Muslims aren't terrorists and about their religious dress will help bring better religious tolerance? Where else could that be taught but a religious studies class?

Well the first part clearly was you clearly said that you found creationism more logical than evolution, that's all I said you have not given 1 reason at all, you just said 'I believe this for reasons I can't explain rn' if you can't justify your own opinion then it clearly isn't founded by 'lots of research' all you had to do was give 1 reason and you have failed to do that I sympathise with you here but are you serious

Religious education from a historical perspective is important, but no one needs to be taught Creationism. You can identify which major faiths believe in it, but that's about it. Evolution being taught as a theory isn't a new concept either - the scientific community recognizes that it is only a well-substantiated theory, some of the evidence for which is based on conjecture. It's still an important Biology concept, and it should be taught, though when I learned it the professor had a clear bias towards its verity.

Where I go to school, we had one class that spent a large portion of the curriculum on the history and beliefs of Southeastern religions (Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, etc.) and the three Semitic faiths, and then another optional seminar that taught East-Asian philosophy (Confucianism, Taoism, Mohism, etc.). Both classes were excellent and eye-opening, and I think if there were to be any form of religious education in schools, that would be the way to go. They managed to be informative and go pretty deeply into the beliefs and history of all the included faiths without being preachy.

Yeah, but the issue is not all people follow the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic faiths so creationism would be pointless in a class full of students with Hindu backgrounds. I think religious and scientific theories should be taught.
