I didn't says she was
I said "she innovated the use of the whistle register". I know others used it before her, I'm only saying that her use of the whistle register was innovative because she used it in ways no one before her did. She sang runs that started from her lower register all the way up to her whistle register, sang in it for extended periods of time, phrased complete lines in the register when no one before her, at least in mainstream music, could phrase as much in the register, if at all.She also mixed between her whistle and "whisper" register at the same time, which resulted in her trademark breathy whistles that no one else had done before her. Her riffs, runs and improvisation in the register remain unmatched to this day.
And anyway, Mariah remains the better vocalist imo.
