Well, it's possible that she did sing live (this is prerecorded) and the sound was of poor quality given the whole "face down in a bed" thing, so they decided to dub in vocals from a better performance (ie: the Ellen one) before it's air date. Or that they are hiding the real audio since she apparently hasn't had this performance air yet? There's no getting around that most of that is from Ellen, though the last verse was live I guess since you can year her voice changing as she's fumbling around with Lena

The dancing was so embarrassing. I'm guessing Maddie canceled last minute, so they had to get ANYONE who was willing to just wing it last minute, and Lena agreed When she tried to pull the toilet paper and it kept ripping And when she was climbing up the bed and my only thought was "I hope they're not going over the weight limit "

I totally buy this as an artistic exploration of artistry in pop music. I am fairly confident you're supposed to wonder just how the hell Sia can sing facedown in a pillow and whether it's really her at all. If it's not really her, and if it's not really "live," does it change the fact she sounds good and that it's an entertaining performance?

For that matter, Sia's been "not really onstage" for years while her songs have been lip-synced to. By having these obvious performances where she may not even be present, she's reminding us of the cult of pop stars who really just can't physically be possibly singing and dancing at the same time. We pay hundreds of dollars to see Britney and we don't expect live vocals or even good dancing at this point... People are paying to be in the same room as Britney. Sia wants us to realize that it should be about the song, not the pop star.

The verses were live, this much is known. There's a hole for her head in the bed and you can see the mic stand come up to meet her mouth at the hole.

If this were the case then why would she bother doing the verses live and just fake the chorus, like she did? Why not just fake the whole thing?

Just caught this... WOW! Sia's abilities to sing lying face down! Lena Dunham's embarrassing in a drunk uncle at Thanksgiving kinda way but whatever... She looks good in this. Maybe its coz her ugly arm tattoo's covered up. I hate that thing.
