It was dragged to the pits of hell and back and it got the same METACRITIC SCORE as PRISM and Bangerz. Let alone that most reviews were biased (tho I agree the album doesn't deserve more than 70)
The album is really nice. If it was a Katy or Miley album it'd get a bigger metacritic score, it's just that after TFM and BTW maybe it seemed like a letdown to some people ...
There isn't a current pop record with songs as good as Gypsy, DWUW and Applause. There isn't a current record with a ballad as beautiful and raw as Dope. There isn't a pop record with songs as crazy+weird and addictive at the same time as Venus, Fashion!, Sexxx Dreams, AURA and Mary Jane Holland ..
It's just people are attacking Gaga while she is on the ground, because that's their only chance.
Edit: The people saying ARTPOP ***** on BTW tho, need a reality check.

But most people praise The Fame Monster. 
The problem clearly lies with the album. It's not just because it's Gaga. People don't hate for no reason. Fact is, if people hate something, they were given a reason to hate it. Simple concept, no?

I don't think so, no. I also distinctively remember the ARTPOP leak thread having a very positive response. Shocking, right?
Unfortunately we're amongst people that refuse to admit they like an album that's not a groundbreaking worldwide smash.

I hope Paul is never a lead producer. She needs someone grounded in reality, like Rick Rubin, RedOne, Fernando Garibay for example. The drop in quality from BTW is big but is saved by songs like Dope, Fashion!, and Gypsy.

This is what I hate about the critics. They will judge the person (Britney), the release tactic (Beyonce), their past albums (Gaga), which all influence their score when they should just be focusing on the music at hand, and not venture to anything else. That's why I never pay attention to 'critical acclaim' because that's such a waste.

you definitely have a point. The fact that some of the reviews sounded biased and I was like "maybe it's just me being pressed " and the next second I am seeing Madge's name in the article 
Or the most stupid thing ever - they start comparing the album with what their expectations were  These people are definitely not professionals.

The trend is to hate ARTPOP. A lot of people actually listen to it but just because it did not sell 3M first week and 25M overall they drag it. If it had sold lets say 4-5M, then people's opinons, especially on ATRL would have been different. So lets not

Music journalism is not run by professionals (the video game industry also suffers from this). Better off checking credible blogs made by fans of music with degrees and such. Metascore's are generally pretty accurate but some of the reviews huge companies release are outright tragic at times.
