I remember when I got chosen for jury duty once. I didn't get chosen for the actual case, but I remember wanting to stay and try out. It was my freshman year of college though and my English professor kept telling me to get out of it, but I stayed til they kicked me out.
It was about some son who killed his mothers boyfriend in a dispute or something.

I did stay, but I got cut during one of their narrowing down phases. And I don't know; my professor just told me to tell the judge that I had **** to do and couldn't do it. I wanted to see if I got picked though, so I never tried to get out of it.
That was like 4-5 years ago though, but like you said, they threaten the hell out of you to come so I was too scared to ignore it.

Speaking of jury duty. I never went to mine. I remember being told that if I didn't attend or cancel, I would get fined or they would put out a warrant for my arrests I was petrified for weeks.
