Am here for wireless music,
Come through, Apple, and while you are at that, keep on milking those fanboys that will line up this year, next year and so on.
So I can't use my existing headphones (that weren't cheap) and charge my phone at the same time if I get a new device? Ew, sounds like Android may finally have to be getting my service.
Apple never announced that they're doing away with the standard headphone jack. Apple doesn't comment on speculation or announce major design changes like THAT before they announce the device itself, and the iPhone 6 is months away from being announced.

I think it's cool how the headphones can be powered up and can take an existing port that really is only used for charging/connecting to the computer, because who wears a headphone while the iPhone is charging anyway. That seems like a messy cord situation. It seems simpler but honestly Apple is monopolizing and I don't think a line of headsets specifically for iPhone is a good idea. It should be universal, if I had Beats I wouldn't just want to use it on an iPhone.
This article is horse **** and you know it, you sheep will just take any opportunity to knock on Apple because you know they're a threat.
They're simply taking advantage of the Lightning connector, allowing higher quality audio output and tapping into the iPhone's battery power for headphones such as Beats that are battery powered. It's a great step forward for audiophiles, but they would obviously not remove the headphone jack.
LMAO at you guys believing a Yahoo article... ridiculous.
I think it's a great idea, BUT, they need to ease people into a new adapter and the new technology by putting a standard jack adapter that plugs into the lightning port.
They're likely just pissed the European parliament is forcing them to switch to standardized micro USB like every other cellphone manufacturer did in 2010 (Apple is pretty much the only one that hasn't already complied - see how no other company is milking that cash cow?). The European Parliament is pretty much explicitly telling Apple they better comply by 2017 or not be allowed to sell cellphones and tablets across the continent. The law has been passed, no more "cable chaos" in the name of environmental protection... Apple can either slap a micro-USB on future Apple releases sold in Europe or be banned from sale.
So now they're going to make that magical lightning port essential on iDevices to try and circumvent this issue, finding a loop hole by toting the unique port as (I'm guessing) essential for the average consumer function as it does more than just power the device, and thus cannot be switched to a simple micro USB port. Those special accessories and cables are very profitable and they are not letting go of that easy money for sure. I've been wondering for years how they were going to try and worm their way out of this regulation when it was still floating around in parliament... and now since it's been passed, I guess I got my answer...

Never heard of Google? Lets not pretend that Yahoo is the ONLY source for this news, that's being ridiculous.

But it's now been shown those articles are mis-reports from the original article that the new Beats headphones ditch the audio jack for the lightning connector, not the phone ditching the Audio jack for the lightning connecter.
The original article has been posted and doesn't mention Apple referring to phones or devices at all.
