i feel like this thread was my fault

anyways it's kinda arbitrary to me, they were both huge and i don't think there's any definite way to say one was bigger than the other because umbrella came out when sales were lower so that's not an accurate indication

Sales wise : Firework
Impact wise : Umbrella.


I think Firework had the benefit of the 2011 Digital Sales explosion ( see Party Rock Anthem, Somebody that i Used to Know, and Moves like Jagger for examples of that). I think Umbrella would sold the same or more if it had that same benefit. The fact that Umbrella will play at least once a week on the radio, while Firework.....hasnt really played since 2011, shows enough.

I think Firework has more impact currently. It still gets played around the world whenever there's an event with fireworks.

So does this mean Umbrella can no longer be Rihanna's signature song? Or is it because she has more than one so it's no longer considered her signature hit?

hmmm tbh Umbrella felt bigger at the time but I rarely hear it anymore. I still hear Firework (although it obviously has the benefit of being fresher/newer still). I'm gonna abstain for now

EDIT: Although I must say, the fact that Umbrella inspired literary ICON JK Rowling is a pretty big deal

I can't at you trying to bring the sales and certifications when we all know the singles sales in 2011were so much bigger than those in 2007.

I agree that IKAG was her signature song up until about 2010, but I think now when the GP thinks "Katy Perry" they think of Firework or Roar.
