Love Story is one of the biggest hits by any of the J-Pop girls of the last 5 years and Can You Celebrate is like the highest selling single by a female artists in Japanese history Obviously the public is here for her ballads.
And why is that?
Go listen to miss(understood) and Next Level, then the rest.
I've tried to listen to miss(understood) and Next Level and Guilty and My Story and RAINBOW and every single Ayu album NUMEROUS times, but it really feels like torture to listen to that voice of hers… and I really don't want to judge the quality of the actual music on her voice, but it's like flapping sheet metal…

I have to agree. Her voice is unbearable to me, especially this fake vibrato she always puts on.
This is a good example on how Ayu sings and sounds to me:
^And it's not like I want to dislike her… I mean, I figure she's popular for a reason, right? So, makes sense to check her out. That's what I did for Koda Kumi and it turned out I really do enjoy some of her work (not alot, but some)! But, with Ayumi, it gets grating sometimes…
I listened to (Miss)understood about a week ago (my first album by any Japanese solo artist) and I really liked it. A little too much rock for my taste personally but the few gems with less of it were awesome, especially Fairyland. The rock will no doubt grow on me but first-listen was a little overwhelming since I expected mostly pop lmao.
Been bopping to Bold & Delicious the whole time though, it's so damn good.
