Discussion: "Gay couple" found IN THE BIBLE! + Bromance/Bisexual teas?!

Sorry, but this is wrong. The Old Testament of the Bible was translated from Hebrew to English, and in Hebrew there are multiple words used for "love." English only has one, and so, when translated, it sounds like a sexual relationship took place. In reality, the word used in Hebrew was 'âhab, which was used in other places to describe non-sexual love.

There was also a lesbian couple, Ruth and Naomi.

Quote:
In fact, so as to remove any doubt about how Ruth felt toward Naomi, the Scriptures go on to record the details of the vow that Ruth made to Naomi. Here are her words:
“Do not press me to leave you or to turn back from following you! Where you go, I will go; where you lodge I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die, I will die — there will I be buried. May the Lord do thus and so to me, and more as well, if even death parts me from you!” (Ruth 1:16-17)
When Ruth spoke those haunting words, “Where you die, I will die — there will I be buried,” she wasn’t talking about some theoretical distant future. She was giving voice to the very real possibility that her decision to place her life in the hands of another woman could result in death. The sensible thing would have been to allow Naomi to return to her family and for Ruth to return to hers. But Ruth didn’t do the sensible thing. She threw caution to the wind and went against every survival instinct. Only one word could explain her actions — love.

I bet when homosexual relations are the norm and accepted christians will use these verses to show that it has always been part of gods word

"Go in peace, since we have both sworn in the name of the Lord...
May the Lord be between you and me, and between your descendants and my descendants forever."
Keyword: descendants. They ended up marrying women and having kids. Not exactly gay-friendly.

The books of Samuel do not actually document physical intimacy between the two characters aside from "kissing,"

This is also incorrect. You can shape any story to be what you want if you take it out of context. Ruth was Naomi's daughter-in-law and refused to leave Naomi because Naomi was ill and needed care. This is made quite clear.
Seriously, please do at least a little research before claiming every single relationship between two men or women was homosexual.

Wait for the responses trying to bend this into something sounding straight and normal tho.
Edit: Too late:

But that doesn't mean the Bible is saying it's 'right'. Even if there was a gay couple in the Bible, it is still wrong [in the view of Christianity].

the bible is still hateful and judging, good points don't equal out the bad points - the book should be irrelevant in our society

Ruth loved Naomi as Adam loved Eve in Ruth 1:14. Here, the cleaving is referred back to Genesis where a man is to leave father and mother to cleave to his wife. The question is, did Ruth cleave to Naomi as Adam to Eve? Psalm 102:5, II Kings 3:3, Deuteronomy 28:21, and many other passages use this exact word in a way that no sexual union is implied. Ruth chooses to not forsake Naomi and demonstrates a strong commitment. However, no intimacy is implicit in the word used.

Again, it's very easy to look at ONE SENTENCE and decide what it means.
