no no, they always prefer you buy the new edition. it sucks, but that's always the one the class has, and speaking from experience the new editions change considerably. pages aren't right a lot of the times, pictures change, sometimes they even move an entire chapter elsewhere in the book, a lot of times certain things aren't even in the book that was before. do not rely on your edition being enough, unless it specifically says it's alright to have past editions, just buy the used version of the latest one. too messy dealing with an old book.
