The Idol stigma is STRONG. Phillip's music fits in HAC perfectly. Rock radio won't touch him (like Active Rock and I doubt Alternative will play him too).
Yeah he should have been introduced as a Rock artist, but Interscope saw it easier for him to fit in (and be accepted) HAC so that's where they went. Only a few songs of Phillip's have an Alternative sound, no where as Alternative as some songs that get played there. What Phillip really suffers from is that he wrote half of the album with pop songwriters so it is not exactly a band record like in alternative bands. Alternative bands have a cohesive sound where the various use of instruments come first then the vocals.
I don't think it would be THAT strong, I mean Cassadee Pope is having success on Country radio after being on The Voice and she used to be Pop Rock
Yes, I know it fits on HAC, but a lot of Alternative songs crossover to HAC because they fit. AC wouldn't play him but Alternative would. But his songs are Folk Rock which fit the Alternative sound (Ho Hey, Little Talks, Best Day of My Life, I'll Wait). Most songs are written by the band members and sometimes a little help from the producer.
My point is he would have a bigger fan base if his songs were sent to Alternative Radio.

Idol has a very strong stigma and started developing soon after the WGWG curse started. You can't compare Cass to Phillip when The Voice is seen as the "COOL" show. The Voice does not have a stigma yet.
And no disrespect but Cassedee isn't exactly having that much success right now in Country. Yeah she has one top 10 country radio hit, but Phillip had that two in his first era with HAC and AAA. No one knows what the second era will bring.
If american authors can be played in Alternative along with Avicii I don't see how Phillip can't be played. Yet the problem is no matter what his most loyal fans think, due to him being an Idol winner he is seen as a manufactured artist.
One Direction was also a manufactured group but since they got so HUGE, they don't need to carry that around them.
Edit: also phillip does get played in AC. He has two #1s there. He gets airplay there before getting Pop airplay

But Cassadee is a girl coming from a Rock past, is really hard for a girl to breakthrough on Country and it would be harder for a Pop Rock girl to breakthrough and she was accepted. The Voice stigma is that they don't produce successful winners.
And she has only released two singles, and her 2nd single is slowly climbing the Country Charts and is super hard to be female Country artists when your name is not Taylor, Carrie, Miranda, or your not in a band like The Band Perry and yet her first single was a Top 10 hit.
Wouldn't the WGWG actually help him in the Alternative world? Most ALT band singers are WGWGs although ALT people could be a little (mmm what's the world) [/closed minded[/strike] unique and as you said Phillip having Pop writers wouldn't help him and also being a solo act instead of a band wouldn't be the best way to approach them.

Idol's stigma is not only about WGWG winners. It is about the GP believing that the contestants and winners are manufactured and are label puppets. Also Idol has to carry aorund the fact that most Idol winners have had a very successful first ear, but in their second they do bad. The Voice contestants and winners are seen as "Artists." I would rather have that than the GP believing that all Idol contestants and winners are there only to please the label.
Cassedee had help from her label to get her Country airplay support. . . and good for her because that is what the label needs to do, support their artist.
"Home" was played in Alternative and in fact reached the Top 40 I think. Home was straight folk rock though and it was also a huge hit. For another Phillip song to get played there, Interscope would have to work HARD to get him on Alternative since like I already said, Phillip by many people's eyes is not seen as a genuine artist, but a manufactured pop artist.
The fact that a kid like Austin Mahone is looking to beat Phillip's numbers. That ain't right . I knew it's his teen fanbase, but Phillips deserved so much more in his first week
I know he's probably going to pass him in longevity anyways.

This is Austin's debut not sophomore album and it's an EP lol Phillips did 169K during his debut and his album is now a catalogue, maybe Austin will do that but he has a long way to go
It is. When i first heard it, i got chills and said "u know what, i didn't even listened the rest of the album yet but this will be my favorite" and i was right, there are some great tracks in the album (like Face, Unpack Your Heart, Searchlight) but Thicket could be his best song yet. So in love with it.

But do you think the song will get airplay, it's so different that what's on the radios right now ?

Oh i really don't know what catches on US radios, they are weird, like playing 6 month old song all day like it's a new one. Just get over it already :P But besides that, i really want to see the video and want more people to hear this amazing song cause my recommendations to my friends aren't enough But also they could cut the song because it's kinda long for the radios and that would hurt the song. Arghh, i don't know man, i just want this song out there

I'm just happy to find that someone loves Thicket as much as i do
I have it on repeat each day lol
This are the potential singles according to his fans. Based on sales the second single should be UYH, but based on the twitts i think it´s gonna be MS, which is fine both songs are good, very optimistics and writting in a mature way without silly parts like "we will live until we die".
