There were similar debates about Nelly and Akon back in the day too. Akon would very often get referred to as a rapper, even though most of his big hits were singing.

Wrong, Lauryn Hill is widely known as a rapper/singer. Almost everyone in the urban community sees her as a rapper with the co-signs of Kanye West, Nicki Minaj referencing her as a rapper

As far as Kesha goes I really dont know lol, but Lauryn seems far more respected as a rapper then Kesha

Kesha and Fergie I understand, but Lauryn Hill is such a legend in the hip-hop community and she's an inspiration to so many female rappers. She's Nicki's biggest inspiration.

Since she rapped on her biggest hit and was a member of The Fugees. So basically since forever.

But yeah, she is certainly viewed more as a singer than rapper. "Doo Wop" is undeniably a rap song, though. It doesn't seem to be that difficult of a concept to grasp.
