I am studying US government now and could someone PLEASE explain to me how is it possible to win popular vote and not be president? Like isn't it equal to electoral vote? Like what happened in 2000. I don't get it.

Idk, but don't you win based on points or something from each state?

So you could snatch the bigger states and win the most points, while the other could have all the small states get more votes in numbers, but not in points.

You are in luck. I taught US Government last term.

Essentially it boils down to the fact that the electoral college only looks at who won each state. Not how much they won by.

Let us pretend that there are only two states.

State A:
Population 2.8 million
Electoral Votes 6

State B
Population 5.2 million
Electoral Votes 9

Election Day!
In state A the result is
Democrats: 2 million votes
Republicans: 0.8 million Votes

In state B the result is
Democrats 2.5 million votes
Republicans 2.7 million votes



In total the votes go this way:
Democrats 4.5 million votes
Republicans 3.5 million votes
So. Democrats won right? WRONG!


Since the republicans won state B with 9 electoral votes, and the Democrats won state A with 6........ the REPUBLICANS WIN.

Oop. The only thing I really hated about it was the workload and there was so much pressure and stress. I think I got off easy on a lot of things, though. Our school was pretty chill and there were plenty of mistakes I made along the way, yet there were times when I could make it up. Plus I totally slacked off in my first two years, then luckily buckled down and started slaying last year and especially this year.

I kind of regret not really becoming a social butterfly and making a lot of friends. But then again, I mostly just wanted to focus on just doing my work and everything. I didn't even go to Prom or any field trips, didn't join clubs, etc. #StrugglesOfBeingAnIntrovert

And same. For now I'm excited but it'll also be pretty crazy and nerve-wracking during the ceremony, and then reality is gonna hit me extremely hard days after. But luckily 4 people are coming down from New York so I can hang out with them, at least.

Oh yeah, true. Legit every class at my school had a bunch of class clowns for the past three years. So many people who constantly talk every period and my teachers always have to yell and someone is always interrupting the class every minute. But yeah, I didn't mind most of my teachers, either. I think out of my 20 teachers I've had at this school, I've only disliked about 2.
