I was just thinking about this, but what upsets me most about Mariah is the struggle. I remember listening to her and being BLOWN away by her voice, by how effortless she sounded belting and riffing and hitting all these notes. And it's so sad to hear her now. She still has a great voice but the "effortless" factor is completely gone now. Everything sounds like she's putting the utmost effort into it and half the time (live) it doesn't even pay off.

And then all the studio maniplations and illusions.

Honestly, I think effortlessness is what sets singers like Mariah and Whitney in their prime apart from other singers who also have large ranges, big voices, etc. Something about that effortlessness makes it so wondrous and awe-inspiring to listen to. I miss it.
Let me stop being negative tho, the new album slays.

She came THRU.

"Loverboy" is my all-time fave and she's never even ONCE performed it. And it was a LEAD SINGLE. + she performed "Never Too Far" 1,000 times and even performed "Reflections", an album track.

Bye, at least she never butchered it live. You can go on in life without having that cloud surrounding you.
