A few people already mentioned it. I too live in NYC and yeah it's diverse but people only mix with their own race/ethnicity or white.

Some reasons:
Blacks and Asians don't generally like each other. There's stereotypes that comes into play. But Asians believe blacks are lazy and ugly. They also hold whites at a high standard of beauty. Even going as far as having self hate.

Blacks don't generally go for Asians regardless. Really to the core it's ignorance.

It probably stems off prioritizing light skin in asian cultures. I'm hispanic/asian mixed and my japanese side of the family were glad that me and my siblings were light skinned. It's just how their views growing up were. I don't share those views but it's definitely common in east asian countries and most likely still lingers in some American born Asians. Although I've seen plenty of black/asian couples.

Attraction isn't exclusive to specific ethnicities. I happen to find that each and every ethnic group possesses a special, unique beauty about them. I think Asian people as very attractive. I've actually seen a lot of interracial relationships between Asians/Africans.

Where I live, I've seen hook-ups between Asian and Black guys and I myself have gotten attention from Asian guys (I'm Black, but I've been told I'm light-skinned and have somewhat European-looking features, so idk if that plays a role). But yeah, as far as I'm aware, race is a very minimal concern for the gays that live near me. But I also live in a liberal and very well-educated community, so that probably plays a role.

Gay asians especially go for white men and rarely deviate from that but there are exceptions.
I have talked with a few gay asian men who have said they don't date their own race but again there are exceptions.

This is mainly a thing in the US though if you go to other countries it's not like this as much.
