That's not always true. There are plenty of overlooked artists with twice the talent/capability. It's not fair to sell these artists short. Sure Leona is talented for example, but there are plenty of vocalists who can outshine her or aren't as completely exposed/promoted like she is. Big name artists aren't always the definitive example.

The overlooked artist story is OVERRATED and tiring. Stop using that as an excuse as why artist aren't popular. It's either because they aren't doing the right promotion or they just aren't appealing. You have to put in work, these days you won't get popular off of "talent" alone.

I was talking about artists like Santogold, Algebra Blessett, Adriana Evans and Teedra Moses..etc. Granted some are going for the alternative/indie image, but some of these artists are hugely talented. They get signed to labels that neglect them and don't promote them. Do you think if Def Jam had given up after Rihanna's "If It's Lovin That You Want" she would have had the natural talent and financial backing to support the image she has grown to now? And if Leona had not had the huge backing of Simon Cowell through Idol and the appearance on Oprah that Leona would have been huge here? Some people have talent. Some people have luck. Some have both. Open your eyes.

How does it matter if Leona had Simon Cowell's backing anyway? He signs artists, it's his job to spot talent and obviously he does a good job at it and the whole Oprah thing is silly, Leona was top ten in the US before she appeared and already #1 on iTunes , Oprah obviously helped her get her music out to a larger audience, it's called promotion

And you say Santogold, Algebra Blessett, Adriana Evans and Teedra Moses can outshine Leona, that's your opinion, so don't say it like it is fact :-\ because in my opinion Leona outshines the hell out of them, because in my opinion she has a bigger appeal which equals her being a bigger artist

Coolness. I didn't want to fight with you Anyway, I do think Raven has a good voice. I just think she needs to make a hot record and seriously revamp her image. Maybe a new do and a slimmer figure. This business is about image, then talent. I know she loves music, but if she wants to be super successful, she needs to re-imagine her appeal and audience. She could be bigger, and with a better label.

There are many vocally-talented artists that actually need an image or personality to appeal to people. Rihanna has the IT girl, fashionista thing. Leona has the huge vocally talented image. Ciara has the slick dancing and smooth vocals, and the foolish rumor about her being a man. Stupid or not, it keeps her on people's lips and in the news. Raven lacks any kind of mainstream appeal. Her image is her characters in films/TV. She needs to mold herself as a singer/artist, not as an actress that has a passion/hobby for singing.
