I found it weird seeing him in that list... since I don't recall ever seeing someone who goes solo nominated for Best New Artist at the VMAs (unlike most other MTV awards around the world...). Justin Timberlake, Annie Lennox, Gwen Stefani, Fergie... None of them were nominated for BNA despite the fact that they had videos from their first solo projects that were nominated and won in other categories...
I guess MTV changed their policy... or, since now they seem to be geared at pre-teens (The Naked Brothers Band is also on the possible-nominee list...) and people who mostly listen to hip-hop/R&B, maybe MTV thinks none of them realizes that he was also the vocalist of System of a Down

...this is alternative rock...this moonman should go to britney.....it's the best of the 5 nominees.
MTV is defiantly on that stuff for letting fans pick the nominees, as predicted Britney Spears will be nominated in everything possible. As for HIP HOP the winner is pretty obvious.
