But the point is that when you do have it...it needs to be checked. I would think this would be a simple concept to understand...

Let me rephrase that. They're praised by the general public more. Of course they're going to be dragged by hip-hop heads and fans of rap because, most of the time, they're mediocre at best yet constantly praised since they're white.
Same goes for twerking, dreads, multiple cultural piercings, etc. Its "ratchet" if you're black, "unique/trendy" if you're white.
That's white privilege in black communities.

Perhaps, if people showed some more respect for differing perspectives on race, these threads wouldn't be so messy.

OK, that's fair, but black people who break the "mold" and show themselves to be unique individuals are also praised by society.
Examples: Pharrell, Whitney during the 80s, Travie McCoy, Rihanna, Michael Jackson, etc.

Yeah, I mean, what do the Jews know about systematic oppression?

being able 2 ignore the existence of privilege is a privilege in itself, which makes his essay an excellent example of what privilege is

But the article doesn't really address "privilege", he addresses his family's roots, that's not the same thing as privilege. Sure his family had been persecuted in the past but right now he still has pure privilege as a white, straight male. his religion and ethnicity has little to do with that.

Not within the context of the post you replied to. It was referencing specifically colored people and you responded with that argument. Either you know exactly what you're talking about or you didn't write that post the way you intended. Either way, it's off-topic and has nothing to do with this thread so why did you even bother bringing it up?

Well first of all POC shouldn't be telling anyone to "check their privilege" unless someone's disrespectfully disregarding the struggles of an institutionalized racist society.
I mean he's obviously doing that here, but I'm not sure if he deserved the "check your privilege" beforehand. I guess he needed to hear it anyway. idk

Nah, **** the whole "I don't see race" card. If there are REAL problems, such as this, it needs to be fixed and not erased by cheesy one-liners.

“Behind every success, large or small, there is a story, and it isn’t always told by sex or skin color. My appearance certainly doesn’t tell the whole story, and to assume that it does and that I should apologize for it is insulting,” Fortgang writes. “While I haven’t done everything for myself up to this point in my life, someone sacrificed themselves so that I can lead a better life. But that is a legacy I am proud of.”

This part is definitely true for everyone of every skin color
