Rihanna Chats To Nick Grimshaw About New Single X O X
Global superstar Rihanna phoned into BBC Radio 1's most popular show with Nick Grimshaw this morning! The star sounded a little croaky and tired, but she was in good form all round and talked about her new single X O X, her clubbing antics and much more. Check out the interview below!
Q: So, Rihanna! How has life been treating you since we spoke last?
R: Great, actually. I've just been having fun and traveling the world and just kind of living in the moment.
Q: Lots of inspiration for R8 I suppose?
R: Uh, yes. I guess so. I'm always inspired, the life I live is so spontaneous and vibrant and exciting and I'm just having a good time and doing what I love. So I can't complain.
Q: Lets talk about your new single X O X. Now, I was tuning in to the premiere on BBC Radio 1 yesterday, and I was at home just freaking out, dancing around the kitchen-
R: Well that's good to hear Nick *laughs*. I hope you looked good.
Q: Oh of course Rihanna! But yes, I love it so much. I've already been playing it. Tell us about this Godly tune.
R: Thank you for playing it so early, it isn't even released to radio's 'till Monday. But X O X is just, a really cool, sexy, romantic song with a Rihanna attitude to it, if that makes any sense. I guess we put this out because it was just made to be and I feel like we got a great mix with the Electro and R&B and Pop sounds that made it this heavenly dance anthem. So yeah, I love X O X.
Q: And so do we! We also heard about your clubbing antics last night, with some pictures and videos surfacing on the web. A girl loves to party right?
R: YES! That's right, damn girl you know how I feel. Yeah, I was just having fun. I released a new single that day, of course I'm gonna celebrate.
Q: On top of an old man? *laughs*
R: Of course! That's the way to do it Grimmy, you should know better.
Q: Anyways, Rihanna, it was great talking to you. Before you go, one question your Navy has been asking us on Twitter is when will the music video come for X O X?
R: The music video will actually be coming today so stay tuned and look out on VEVO and YouTube.

RiRi Premieres 'X O X' Video With VEVO!
A livestream with Rihanna and VEVO was launched today at around noon, entitled 'Rihanna - X O X (Music Video Premiere)'. The star had Tweeted not long before it that the video would be released so soon. It seems Rihanna loves surprises lately!
The star sat for an interview before launching the exciting video directed by Melina Matsoukas.
 Interview
Q: Rihanna tell us all about this song, X O X, before we get into the video.
R: What can I say really? It's just a nice care-free song about showing your love for someone, really. "Boy, I'm sending you X O X and the night is calling..." It's just about expressing your love for someone and getting drunk and enjoying their company.
Q: You must really love this song if it's the lead single.
R: Of course, I'm very excited to perform it everywhere. It's a nice change because I usually don't have singles like this that are so, kind of, Urban and R&B and still be experimental and sound very Pop and catchy.
Q: Are you saying it's an experimental track?"
R: I guess so. X O X, it's confusing... But I like it like that.
Q: Is this another hit video like your other videos?
R: You can ask the fans that once they see it. They always know best and work their asses off watching my videos.
Q: Will you break the most watched video in 24-hours record?
R: What kind of question is that? I would love it to be. This video is dope.
Q: So tell us about this video.
R: Myself and Melina Matsoukas directed it. Melina of course directed the We Found Love video and X O X, I like to think of it as We Found Love on a Summer acid. Visually it's a lot more Summer-y and vibrant but it still has that kind of, rawness and personal touch Melina always delivers.
Q: What is Melina like?
R: She's fabulous. I love what Melina does, she always makes my videos looks so personal and professional. If you compare the Where Have You Been video to the We Found Love one, you'll know what I mean. Melina is definitely a keeper, haha.
Q: So, tell us about new music. C'mon Rihanna.
R: I don't have much to say other than we're still working hard, extra-hard, actually. Expect a few more singles soon... Yup.
The Video
Overall the X O X video screams 'Summer', 'Party'. 'Relationships' and 'Attitude'.
Rihanna is seen sporting some very sexy outfits, dancing and laughing and making love. Melina Matsoukas brings out the raw visuals which makes it that extra bit personal and special. Melina almost documents a year in Rihanna's life, being wild, happy and free. The video is filled with spontaneity.
We go through many different cities and cultures in the video, one of the main highlights of the night-time scenes is Paris, with Rihanna dancing and having fun with friends under the Eiffel Tower. LA, Barbados and Rome is also heavily featured throughout the video - There is even a small snippet of Rihanna at the Vatican! #getdatcontroversy
There are acutally scenes of Rihanna performing the song, and not just running around travelling the world. We see Rihanna performing mainly in a field which has been edited to look colorful and vibrant. Short scenes of fan videos from some of Rihanna's shows are spliced throughout.
The same male actor from the We Found Love video also stars in this video as Rihanna's lover. This time a more happy impression is made of their relationship!
Overall: A fun, carefree and happy video with spontaneity and lots of Summer colors.
