I hate BL But I can see why it smashed. It was designed to smash in today's climate. ARTPOP was designed to smash on radios in 2011/2012.

In 2012 it looked like the album was going to come out. You honestly would think not a lot had changed in a year, but considering Gaga seemed to be following the same wave of inspiration for 3 years then it makes sense why ARTPOP sounds 3 years behind.

I have no doubt that Gaga recorded progressive music though. I just think the most dated songs were chosen in an attempt to appeal to radios, while the experimental tracks were pushed aside.

G.U.Y. is the definitely the less radio-friendly in 2014 out of the three ARTPOP singles but not so little to be snubbed this way for a popstar of her caliber! I smell something fishy.. I hope it's not a Britney-sized blacklisting!

Me too. I got my life from Aura though! It just...it's a bunch of lyrics. That's how I feel about her lyrics these days. Just a bunch of nonsense thrown together. But the fact that I know she has songs like Brooklyn Nights and Dope makes me aware that she's not completely dead on the inside.

I loved how tight security was with BTW. Applause was purposely leaked to steal attention from Katy, IMO, and it backfired. Gaga and team really thought she could release that track and send it #1 without effort.

But maybe if Gaga doesn't announce her next single, and just tweets the iTunes leak at midnight, then all it would go well

This radio drama is a mess. I don't think US radio will be here for her with her next lead single either, unless it truly is a smash and that's really all she can do at this point.

Yeah. I feel like she's mixing random lyrics because they sound good together. Then she comes up with weird names like "Enigma popstar" or "Mary Jane Holland". It doesn't make any sense.

That is ten times better. It fits with the concept of the production and the theme. And it's:

I want your Psycho
Your Vertigo stick
Want you in my Rear Window
Baby you're sick

Referencing Alfred in her song, in her album about fears/horror, ten times better than her embarrassing haiku in Applause. The reference is witty, and fits well with the song's meaning. Gaga is throwing together lyrics these days.

And I'd rather something basic like "just dance, gonna be okay" that captures the meaning of the song then something that tries so hard to be intelligent that it distracts the listener from the actual meaning of the song. That's what Gaga has trouble with. MJH isn't poorly written, but is it supposed to be a weed anthem? It is too much for a weed anthem and isn't relaxing at all. The lyrics are too uptight.
