I agree with you on everything you said and that was to an extent what I was trying to say when I mentioned the Internet. It's just a shame that more artists like that aren't been recognized and are put on the back burner a lot. I'd just like to see some more rags-to-riches stories in music rather than "my daddy and good looks paid for my contract yiss" but there are artists out there who actually prefer that small community of fans and mild fame. Which is okay too. I guess I just have a lil bit of frustration in me when I see some of my faves get bumped down the priority lists because someone hotter (literally, their only positive attribute is that they are physically hot) came along. We've entered an age where everything and everyone is treated so interchangeably and it's so easy to dispose of one artist and bring a fresh one in. There are so many artists at the top of the charts who could be replaced with any drama student/hot teen with ease. It's not as easy to find unique acts/voices as it was back in the day. I think that's why most of my faves (Mariah, Phil Collins, Janet, Elvis, Don Henley etc.) are from the 80s/90s and backwards. Without a doubt the industry has always had it's flaws and marketing schemes; I just feel like it's way more apparent now.

idk, I feel like I'm slipping into that category of "people who like old music and act like it makes them better" which isn't the case. Just mild frsuteration with certain artists/bands that are sitting at the top of the charts because they're sexy; whilst Mariah sits in the bubbling under just bc she's old.

Yeah, I get your frustration. There are lots of artists I like too that just can't make it in the industry because they're not perfect tens. It's definitely disheartening.
