LADIES & GENTLEMAN... CHOOSE THE ALBUM, THEN A SONG IS BACK!
The Game is back on!
And here we are once again! Four are left and you all had the chance of being bitchy. This 'Mean Girls' round will have y'all fuming since the points will be a lot to give or to take off! You'll need to be smart.
As for now, let's meet the entries and see who's bad!
THE RULES

1. DURING THE TIME TO VOTE, ALL THE CONTESTANTS MUST VOTE (OTHERWISE YOU'RE PENALIZED);
2. NO CONTESTANT MAY ASK FANS TO SAVE THEIR ALBUM;
3. ALL CONTESTANTS MUST DELIVER THEIR ENTRY IN TIME, OTHERWISE THEY'RE ELIMINATED (if you need extra time, you need to let me know);
4. A SONG CAN ONLY BE USED THREE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE CHALLENGE;
5. ONCE A SONG IS USED, IT GETS BLOCKED FOR THE NEXT THREE ROUNDS;
6. EVERYONE IS ALLOWED TO VOTE (INSIDERS+OUTSIDERS);
7. EVERYONE HAS TO READ/LISTEN THE ENTRIES BEFORE VOTING;
8. ONE VOTE PER PERSON.

ROUND ELEVEN

1. collin - Gwen Stefani - The Sweet Escape: U Started It

U Started It
U Started It is in the most convenient filler spot on "The Sweet Escape", coming in second to last on the track listing. The song features discomforting, soft production equipped with bouncy chord progressions and cringe-worthy ad libs by producer Pharrell throughout the track. The song itself is about an argument, settling it and finally agreeing with someone in order to continue having a good night and avoid fighting. However, most of the song is repetition, nonsensical muttering and random hodge-podge of ideas that doesn't really end up working out. Overall, it's pretty meaningless and falls flat in forgettable territory on the album, assisting "The Sweet Escape" into mixed review territory on Metacritic (it got a 58).
"I don't know why I'm doin' this, either!"

So from what I can gather, the message of 'Victory' is that in spite of all your troubles, you'll be a happier person if you take pride in your smaller victories, instead of just your big ones. That's a message I can get behind, but the way it's presented here is... well... kind of pathetic, actually. Janelle ends up singing more about how much her life sucks than she does about taking solace in the 'little things' (and she never really explains what those things are; the closest we get is a passing reference to her lover's kisses). As a result, all the lines about being 'victorious' and 'finding glory' come off as a desperate attempt for her to reassure herself, rather than a source of empowerment. Listen to the desperation in her voice when she belts, "YOU MUST FIND GLORY IN THE LITTLE THINGS," which, by the way, has to be one of the weakest refrains I've ever heard. She might as well be singing, "WELL IT'S REALLY THE LITTLE THINGS THAT COUNT, RIGHT? RIGHT? COME ON GUYS, DON'T LEAVE ME HANGING." Top it off with a placid, lifeless beat and a woefully mediocre guitar solo, and you have a track that's more depressing than uplifting.

The song I chose for this round is the title track, "Making Mirrors". Also the opening track of the album, and barely over a minute, the song stood out to me the least. Every song on the album is distinct, and has it's own flavor (such as the strange but brilliant reggae/electronic/autotuned "State of the Art" or the breezy upbeat Motown of "I Feel Better") but this track just doesn't seem to do much. An opening track should represent what's to come for the rest of the album, but this song doesn't do that at all. With monotone whispery vocals and a drab production, it is far from the eclectic and exciting rest of the album. Also, the song goes by so fast you barely even notice it on your first listen of the album, and even after hearing all the songs multiple times, this is the only one that isn't very memorable. Overall, it is the one misstep on an otherwise great album.

"Mother and Father"
Upon listening to American Life, two songs stuck out compared to the rest - one of them being Mother and Father. On a otherwise stripped and uncommercial album, MAF sticks out like a sore thumb. The production is dated and cheesy, the lyrics are cringe-inducing ("There was a time, I had a mother / It was nice" for example,) and doesn't really fit in with a lot of the other concepts on the rest of the album. Speaking of which, while the album is proclaimed one of Madonna's best, I feel like it doesn't truly represent what a winning album should be. The album is full of fillers, and while it does tackle important issues, the way they're executed is very polarizing and try-hard. At this stage of the competition, each album should be deserving to win, and while AL has a few highs, it also has enough lows to bring down it's quality. |

*Green = Vote Accepted & Counted.
VOTE OFF 2, SAVE 1
REMEMBER: You're voting OFF who you think didn't hate on the other album that well, who didn't make the album/track look bad and SAVING who you think did good on hating it, in other words, the biggest bitch.

Rates are done. Good luck final 4! You all really deserve to be here. I can't even decide who should win at this point. It will definitely be a close one.

I'm confused, say if I vote off Collin, am I voting for TSE to be eliminated or Collin?

OFF Jake, Chill Bill
Jake, I don't think I agree with a single thing you said M&F ties perfectly into the theme of the album, it's about an American family dynamic being ruined...? Sorry, but idk. Bill: yours read as a bit of a rant. But I didn't really want to vote either of y'all.

I know, mine was a bit of a reach. But I tried my best, it was my first time ever listening to a Madonna album.
Are we getting the results today?
