It is essentially the next generation of gifs. They are higher resolution AND smaller file size.

I'd not mind if the image size could be restricted so that all image signatures are the same size, otherwise it would look too messy.

People online are attention *****s. They would make them as loud and obnoxious as possible to get more attention no matter what the restriction are.

Sorry if I'm too late with this, but if the new forum is going to have a real time editor instead of a BB code based one, how will all the old forum posts that use BB code transfer over? Wouldn't it just be a bunch of regular text posts with all the random BB codes, or will they automatically switch over to their appropriate formats?

The site will still be using BB code, it's just that when you insert the BB code into the text box it will automatically show what it will look like. Instead of seeing [B]I love Mariah Carey[/b] you'll just see I love Mariah Carey, as if it was already posted; but it's still BB code format.

All the posts should look the same.
