yall in the wrong thread; the voice of our generation refers to the technical skills & musicianship. just like Mariah & Whitney were for their generation yall need to stop these pressedT essays.
what about the opera singer i'm talkin' about mainstream music & pop girl
She's been incredible her entire career, lbr, but something happened from 2007-2008 and her voice just became that much more amazing. I've wondered what it was for 6 years now She needs to sell that secret so the gorls stop losing their voices after belting in the whip.

No. If you want to use it in this context, you can, you wouldnt be the first to do it (it was started by one popular TV singing competition), but the meaning is different

Goodness gracious. Different words/phrases frequently have different meanings...Such as "Partition" It could mean the physical thing that separates the driver and the riders, or it can be a phrase used to tell someone to separate things.
Obviously, we are not talking about "the voice of this generation" in the sense you're talking about, so maybe, next time tou cone barging into a thread you could apply some logic and figure out what it is we are talking about.
+There has never been someone who can speak for what every person in a single generation, ever.
The Hive are just desperate to prove Beyonce as a vocalist after ICON sang circles around her last night at the MTV Movie Awards. Just accept that ICON is the greatest vocalist of our generation and move on.
Jesus Christ, ATRL needs to cool it with the Beyoncé coverage already. I love her and I think she's amazingly talented, but to call her the voice of our generation when we have greats like Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato, Adele, and even Lady Gaga who are more vocally capable than her is just absurd. She's an amazing vocalist, no doubt about it, and definitely one of the best of our generation. But there are so many better ones. A YouTube video proves absolutely nothing to me. You're going to need more receipts than that to convince me she's the vocalist of our generation.
Sis, you're a bit late with this legendary video, that have clocked haters, and left them edge-less. 16yrs and counting , Beyoncé still has her golden voice intact. While some of her peers, have experienced rapid vocal decline/deterioration, hers continues to Flourishing and evolving as a stronger instrument.

Honestly, Lady Gaga has a great voice. I get it, she makes pop music and whatever, but she's done acoustic performances where she really lets her voice shine and I think her voice is incredible. I like it more than Beyoncé's. As for Kelly Clarkson, if you honestly think that Beyoncé is more vocally capable than Kelly Clarkson, you are sadly mistaken. There is no comparing. Very few artists today have a voice as great as Kelly Clarkson's. I don't know if I can name any that are even remotely close to hers. Maybe Demi Lovato's, and again, she has an incredible voice for someone her age. She's always had a remarkably strong voice. That's just a fact. And yes, I put P!nk in there too because I saw her live and the fact that she can do the things she does on stage but still sound just like (if not better than) the record is amazing. She's so good. Her voice is better than Beyoncé's, as well. Don't get me wrong. Beyoncé has a great voice. But there are a lot of artists that are better than hers and I hate that all of her fans think she's the top vocalist of our generation because that couldn't be further from the truth. Top 10? Probably. But no way is she the number-one vocalist of our generation.
You should try again without being so subjective in your claims. Ain't no way in hell I will believe any of those girls are worthy of the title till I hear them show mastery of skills such as octave long glissando infused with crazy dynamics, stoccatos with dead on accuracy on beat and perfect intonation, a full connected voice without any holes, the mastery of melismas and vibratos (especially when meshed with other music and only aiding the music as a whole rather than taking away from it), notes that can resonate(slice) through everyone else's voice when placed in a room, showing new vocal styles and incorporating it to the music(the piano duet in ego), and simply doing everything in a healthy and supported manner.
Beyoncé is extremely knowledgable when it comes to vocal health and technique. We won't be losing her and her greatest talent for a great while now.

I prefer calling her the girl with the diamond voice.

A voice of a generation doesnt need to speak for every person in a generation. You dont get it, right?
Obviously I knew right away what this thread is about, hun, dont play that game with me. Thats why I used the word "context". But it doesnt change anything about the fact that some people here are clearly not aware of the original meaning and thus much bigger importance and cultural significance this phrase holds and the confusion it can cause. Thats why people are pointing it out and some people dont feel its right to use it in this context at all considering the circumstances, including me. Clear?
