Why isn't country innovative as pop music?
How come when a country artist mixes Country and Pop like Taylor Swift it's labeled as "not true country"
what is exactly is true country? also how is what Taylor Swift done with Red no different than Shania Twain with Come on Over?

The first question I would think has to so with the desire to sell sell sell in this industry much like the status of the pop music industry. in times of a relative financial detriment the music industry took over the years, this is the status of Popular country music
But then the true country music question, you would need to definite that for your self. Although I would see today's country music IPAs more sub genred then being labeled as country ie. Jason Aldean is country-rock, Lady Antebellum is Country Pop, etc

The title's a mess sis
But I believe it's just purists who get upset when the younger generation attempts new things/mixes styles together. They can stay pressed with their alcoholic inbred ramblings.

I made a thread somewhat similar to this earlier haha.
To answer you question, Pop is more of a melting pot of genres. There's a lot of different influences that can go into a Pop song, and there aren't really that many boundaries. There's different kinds of Country as well, but Country is Country. It's more of a distinct genre than Pop is.
But to answer what you said in the OP, I think some country fans are just very unaccepting for some reason, and it's frustrating. A Pop artist could release a super country sounding song, yet some people would say "they aren't country". They always say Taylor isn't country now since she released some Pop songs. To them it's like you're either Country or you're not, I don't know why they aren't a little more accepting of crossing over.

Taylor is mainly a Country artist. She's released some Pop stuff, but her main genre is Country. "Mean" is a lot more country sounding than a lot of the stuff on Country radio right now.

because Taylor decided to experiment with a few songs on her album, the country award shows nominate her for the awards, we all know they're not going to give them to her, and then she is suddenly seen as the the anti christ. A person who is destroying the country genre, and represents everything that is wrong in said genre.

True this is a confusing situation. I guess it's just country fans prefer keeping the genre boxed into one sound and as soon as it gets a bit of a mix it suddenly isn't country anymore to them :/

See with country radio the stations tend to pick and choose what to play. On her last albums, you can see not all of shanias singles did well on country radio, some #1, some barely top 20 singles, radio can be picky

I'm sure some people did at the time. I feel like it's more rampant now with social media and stuff. Also, Shania released a Country version of Come On Over as well didn't she? The Pop version of the album wasn't quite as far from Country as a song like I Knew You Were Trouble is, that could be another reason.

Ie what happened to faith hill and Leann rimes. Both got international success with their stuff getting popular in the mainstream world. Faith recovered with her Mississippi girl album, while Leann...
Basically if a country artist does pop music, most country buyers deem the artist as a sell out

There isn't real "real country". The stuff people call "real country" now was once criticized for being too pop.
It's all relative. In ten years, the stuff people call too pop now will probbaly be seen as "real country"
You'd have to go back to like the 20s or 30s for truly "real country"

By which buyers? The country buyers did not like the country version of WANEGBT either. Also read my post I replied to. That is my opinion tho

or even back to Johnny Cash times. But then again every genre can go through changes like this. Hip Hop back in the day sounds nothing like it does today
