Christianity has way too much impact on the world we live in honestly, this makes me so mad. What even is his reasoning behind saying this other than being bigoted and ignorant? Sad world that we live it, it still shocks me to see people with this mind set. I just don't understand it.

He's not a bigot and he's not a homophobic. You don't know much about him as a person and by what you just claimed about his music, you don't know much about him as a artist either.

Some of his music is autobiographic or contains things that have actually happened to him, some of it is personal. But there is an equally, if not larger amount that isn't. I know as a fan it's easier to separate the two, and it's easier to know when he's being serious or not. So I can understand where you got that notion. I doubt you've heard a lot of his music based on how much you seem to dislike him.

But seriously this isn't going anywhere. You can pm me if you want to continue the discussion but otherwise we should just agree to disagree and move on. Neither of our opinions about him are that important in comparison to the actual topic of this thread.

Yes he should be judged for musical taste when he's going to condemn the pope for the same thing his favorite does. If that's a foreign concept to you than that's your problem. Does Lady Gaga have bigoted lyrics in her music? No. I've checked. Well, Eminem has expressed numerous times that he isn't anti-gay. One of my favourite quotes from him (in response to whether gay marriage should be legalised) is that 'everyone should have the chance to be equally miserable."

Nonetheless the key point here is that the Pope is in a higher, moralistic position, who is an idol to those who use religion to guide them morally and spiritually. Him saying this stuff is far more damaging than a potential pop-culture role model using slurs in a way that is most probably blasé, or at the very least more so about the shock-value derogatory manner of the language rather than the implicit homophobia.

The pope really has a strong moral following. Him saying this with such an influence is disgraceful.
