I never know whether it seems smarter to release the big song 1st or 2nd.....the Breakaway/SUBG and MKIA/Stronger strategy has worked, but it would be cool to have two (or three) smashes in a row.

SUBG was the 1st single, wasn't it? I mean, Breakaway was like a buzz single because of the movie... Well idk

Yeah technically SUBG was the 1st planned single....Breakaway was originally just for the Princess Diaries soundtrack, but it ended up doing so well that they named the album Breakaway and kinda acted like it was the first single.
Question for the Base(in order to start some discussion that does not relate to something like troll pictures or Thankful's forgotten bop You Thought Wrong):
With Stronger, Kelly's team notably strayed from the trend of putting out a huge lead single (MLWSWY) and released a mid-range moderate WW hit (MKIA) with elaborate plans to see Stronger smash as single 2 (Toyota commercial, etc).
Should she return to this successful formula for her next studio album, or release a buzzworthy bop immediately like w/ AIEW?
I think Breakaway's or Stronger's strategy of two (MKIA-Stronger) or more (BA-SUBG-BTHE-BOY) hits, although some of them aren't that massive, is better than the AIEW's one with one big hit (MLWSWY) and then some flops (well, AG did pretty well in the US but WW it flopped hard). As Cupid said, massive lead single will overshadow the rest, exactly what happened with Stronger-Dark Side (although Stronger was second single). Plus more hit singles would make the era last longer and would better support the album.

Even if SUGB would've been the first single BTHE would've SLAYED as well. Kelly had 4 smashes in a row as opposed to 2. Dark Side was just a terrible single choice.

Although I've never been able to get into DS, I think it deserved to be a single. Everyone was convinced that it would slay hard but Stronger overshadowed it and Duets killed it. I think I Forgive You or Let Me Down should have been released instead of DS, in my opinion they have better potential to do well on their own.
But I think that DS would have slayed if it had been released about a half-year later, especially if was the lead single off GH.
Another controversial topic: Glancing at Kelly's impressive 10 Grammy noms (11 if you count Stronger's SoY nom), it's clear to see that tastemakers are here for Country Kelly (3 country noms). She's also received several Female Vocalist of the Year noms at country awards. She hasn't had huge solo country success yet, but should she keep on going since enough people are here for it?

Another controversial topic I see you're on fire, all yours previous controversial topics were so huge and iconic! You're slaying hard today!
no offense sis, jk
People keep saying that it's hard to break into the country world when it comes to radios. Although Kelly's definitely respected in the country world (see the collabs, noms, awards etc), radios don't seem to have much faith in her. Still she was able to get two almost Top20 hits on her own and one #33 (which ain't bad considering it was a random wedding song, I don't even know how to call it). I think she should hold on, she likes country and country likes her, there's no reason why she couldn't do both pop and country.

Sis, I'm just trying to keep us from pg. 18 - I'll whip out whatever tactics we might need.

Agreed. I think she should keep releasing little country bops from her albums (assuming she's still doing pop/dance/rock/soul/country on her main Pop albums) to country radio and then release a country album after her pop success fades way later in her career.
like lyrically im slayed and then that production? GEEZUS
<3
The demo slays too... like u just cant go wrong with those lyrics/melody
Ah, I was drinking last night when I posted hehe. I guess that shows what kinda drunk I am
But yas..I remember hearing it the first time after DL-ing MD. I shut the lights off, went to bed, and when I got to Haunted the bridge came outta nowhere and scared the shi+ out of me. It wasn't on the demo so I wasn't expecting it.

For sure she can have few country influenced songs on her new album (like she had Breaking Your Own Heart and The Sun Will Rise on Stronger) which she can release to country radios. Multi-genres slaying Kween.
