Not really sure honestly. I would've said no for sure had Janet not been unfairly targeted for the SB incident, because she probably would've continued to successfully add onto her legacy (not releasing trash material either).
I think it's only a matter of time until Beyonce surpasses Janet, if she hasn't already.
Janet influced majority of the 2000s popstars. Bey is a bigger celeb i reckon but janet has more cultural impact (even though she isnt remembered in this decade )
Janet literally revolutionized a whole genre. She has 4 groundbreaking albums full of songs that are still getting referenced in artists work, she helped bridge the gap between R&B and Hip Hop, and she single handily influenced the creation of the biggest video sharing site.
Beyonce has influence in performing, but seriously what has she done to compare to Janet on an influential/cultural level?
As a Janet stan, I can honestly say no. Beyonce will always have the bigger appeal to white people because she is the exact example of a non-threatening black person that they love to elevate. There is nothing intrinsically ethnic about her.
One is local
One is globally selling out tours for a second year in a row
From a non-American viewpoint, yes
You call Janet local only to brag about touring receipts without realizing that Janet has sellout stadiums and/Or Arenas in Europe, Asia, Oceania and Africa throughout her career

Yes.
And of part it is Janet's fault. The whole Superbowl incident put a irremovable blemish on her legacy (whether unfair or not, it's the reality). Because of it, she's sorta become forgotten, while her white counter-part (Madonna) has managed to remain relevant and further her legacy.
This. Janet peers are much more relevant than she is today.
