To be fair, Shakira has been all over the place on TV with commercials, The Voice, on various magazine covers, filming music videos, etc. She's also confirmed to be performing at The Voice UK, the Today Show in NYC, iHeartRadio Theater for the record release party in LA, Le Grand Journal in France, she will be part of the Fifa World Cup & there's more appearances/performances to come. Britney didn't do a damn thing to promote her album except take a 45 minute helicopter ride to Las Vegas to film an awkward interview.

Britney was on magazine covers, she filmed her music videos, she did a whole lot of interviews (not really interesting ones, but she still did), she was rehearsing the whole time for her shows, she even went accross the pond to promote her album. They are in a pretty similar situations except Shakira doesn't have a residency... Technically, they did the exact same thing, in pretty similar situations except you replace The Voice with The Vegas Residency.

Is she allowed with her residency in North America? From what I've read, we don't know that for a fact. Even though, she did say she didn't feel the ''need to perform'' on ANY platform, before the album release.

I was mostly referring to the fact that Shakira is actually going across the world and performing, something Britney didn't do (not a single performance promoting her album). But yes, I know the difference, since Britney was going to be anchored in LV for her residency, but realistically, she probably wouldn't have performed anyway. Shakira will be in a similar situation since she will be anchored in LA for The Voice for a bit, but she will be performing her new material on The Voice and possibly other local/US shows (maybe Jimmy Kimmel?, Fallon, etc.) so I don't think she's 'pulling a Britney' at all.
