Hyped Music Information
This week, Taylor Swift, atop of the charts for a 2nd time with her new single with artist Paige Elliot (who covered last week) takes this magazine cover. Taylor discusses her streak, her upcoming album, and more.
In the music industry, with a dead week, the only things that seem to be an occurrence enough to talk about -- is the new pattern of remixes being released. Remix EPs, Remix Singles, Remix EVERYTHING is becoming quite more common. Is the race for a #1 with remixes more desperate than ever between labels, with certain payola being gone?
More artists are also releasing albums though. Rihanna strikes Top 5 with a new album, as more albums from big names including Azealia Banks are to be released this week. Though many releases will come, who can stand up and face the war of longevity in the current industry? So far all past releases are holding up, with the Top 3 staying in the same position as last week. Bieber's newest LP, 'Crossing Paths' also becomes Gold this week.
Taylor - Devotion & Success
With a 2nd single at #1 for the era -- what do you plan on doing to keep chart relevance? Do you also think Written Without Warrant Records had a lot to do with the role of your 2nd #1?
"My second #1 just from this album campaign. That's very impressive, honestly. Um, I basically just plan on choosing the rights songs to give the single treatment. It's a lot of hard work promoting every single day, all around the world, but it's really the only way you get to have as much success as I'm having at the moment. Written Without Warrant Records? Oh Paige's label. I'm pretty sure they had promotion booked. It just wasn't paid for. And their artist was just going through her usual struggles."
With massive singles, comes the opportunity of a massive album. In the upcoming weeks you will release your album, and compete against big dogs who've already released albums (Justin in the past blocked you for awhile with 'The Complete Dream') how do you plan to secure it a good debut and longevity?
"Just promote. Promote, promote, and promote. This album really means a lot to me and it's kind of motivating me to push it as hard as I can. All At Once was an amazing album campaign for me, but I can admit now that my heart wasn't always there for it. I'm just going to do anything to get the album out there. It's all about timing, you know?"
Are you able to tell us information on the upcoming album? General information.
"It's an album that explores so many different sounds and themes. From gay marriage to religion, it's all on there. Songs range. You have the intense songs that describe the intense emotions I felt. Then you have the somber love songs, keep in mind there's not many. The album is just very pop but very diverse. Which I think is a good thing since people have forgotten the term 'diverse'. Everyone is singing about sex now it seems."
Your anti-tour has already been sweeping across dates giving great grossing, how long do you plan to continue the tour?
"It's going to be done on the 25th of March, which is right around the corner. So far we've garnered in over ten million dollars from the first five dates which is amazing. The tour is ending on the 25th but I'll be right back on tour not even a month later on a tour that'll be much larger than the anti-tour. Just keep an eye out for the dates."
Being the current #1 female, you've outdone big dogs -- Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Paige Elliot, and Phoebe Tonkin are some to name. How do you feel about this?
"I feel really happy about it. I write my own music, show musical growth, and think out of the box. Artists now a days don't show as much devotion to their craft as they should. But I'm very grateful for my success and those who continue to support my music"
Bieber - Longevity to keep the Balloon afloat?
'Crossing Paths' spends a 2nd week towards #1; this becomes another record towards the book. How do you feel about the longevity the album has provided, even without the hugest single at the moment?
I think the numbers are pretty solid in my book, too. Yet another time, (4th time) I've gone Gold in my 2nd week - so I don't see anything horrible enough to be scared of. My longevity shows my dedication of a fanbase, if more than anything. An album dropped randomly, and it's #1 for a 2nd week. Just off a Top 3 single supporting; not even a #1. I'm proud; lots of artists would need 25 #1's to have the longevity I have.
'Take Me To Your Heaven' jumped 5-3 this week; setting another Top 3 in your book. It's performance, was lower compared to most of your previous singles though. Do you feel a weakpoint with your singles is coming? A Top 3 breaker?
Honestly....I was like from the beginning, this era won't be as big as 'The Complete Dream'. People see a solid streak, then expect you to ALWAYS be on top and never fall. It's unrealistic; I'm doing fine. Even if it didn't reach Top 3; it showed longevity -- and spent the same time in the Top 5 most of my singles do. People seem to think if you're not at #1 you're not doing well; and that's not the case. I have a top-selling album as said. I can go downwards and my career still made an amazing mark in music.
You've used the tool of remixing a song to add spice back to it in the past; with it becoming a very common tool in the industry now, what's your stance? Should it only be done when needed? Is it good in general?
I've always been for remixes; if my label suggested a Remix album, I'd do it in a second. I don't understand what's desperate or unnecessary with remixes. They refresh a song; provide a next aspect, and fans love them. It just comes down to -- if you're gonna plan to have a single do well, and sustain longevity -- you need to keep it fresh. Some artists do take it too far though...
You are engaged to Vanessa Hudgens,....wedding details?
It'll be a bit away from now. But when we do the ceremony, the whole world will definitely know. It'll be an amazing event; I'll just say that for now...
You've been with Hyped Music Records for a long time -- so many studio albums, and other projects. It's rumored the contract ends soon? Do you see yourself moving to another label? Perhaps a new re-invention, one who can freshly keep you atop.
Definitely not. They got me my career; they made me the beast I am. I got 16 consecutive Top 3's, 5 #1 albums, touring records, and a music status as a King because of them. It'd be a slap in the face to rush out their doors when my contract expired. We're together til my career is over, ha. They've given me lots of freedom and creative control too; something I couldn't get with most labels. The fact they let me do the double album alone shows it.

MØ premieres her single 'Bikini Daze' at SXSW
Karen Ørsted, who is known just as MØ, earlier today announced that she has signed a whole new recording deal with one of the biggest record labels at the moment - Indigo Records. Indigo is known for handling one of the biggest names in music industry - Phoebe Tonkin, and now MØ has joined Indigo as well, becoming label mates with Phoebe. After her releasing excellent debut record 'No Mythologies To Follow', MØ is not resting at all, and in fact - she starts her whole new era and promises even more amazing songs that will appear on her sophmore album. There is no exact date on when the second album will be released, but at least for now we now that MØ is definately working on it, because she already shared new one song from the upcoming album. As Billboard reports, the new song is called 'Bikini Daze' and it is the upcoming album's lead and first single. MØ premiered the new song by performing it at Indigo Records SXSW showcase, in Austin, Texas, with a bunch of other songs from her, again, excellent, debut album. In total, MØ performed nine songs. The three hundred people crowd was definately hyped up by MØ's energy and the connection that she had with the crowd. MØ is definately one of the best performers these days, because literally, the girl gives everything she has during her performances - she's dancing around the stage, she singing at the same time, she's jumping into the crowd time by time, and the punk music just sums everything up, making her gigs unforgettable. During her gig, MØ performed Maiden, Pilgrim, Never Wanna Know, XXX 88 and other songs from her debut album, and she also performed her Say You'll Be There by Spice Girls version, and Karen performed Dear Boy, on which she collaborated with Sweden's most known DJ and producer Avicii. She chose to perform her new single 'Bikini Daze' as the closing song. After her SXSW showcase, MØ's gig was definately mentioned on a lot of websites as one of the most impressive, energetic and unforgettable gigs during whole SXSW festival.
Setlist:
1. Maiden
2. Never Wanna Know
3. Freedom (#1)
4. Dear Boy
5. Say You'll Be There (Spice Girls cover)
6. Pilgrim
7. XXX 88

Taylor Swift was live at the O2 Arena tonight, playing a jam packed show for over twelve thousand people. The crowd not sure what to expect, saw Swift at her most intimate and vulnerable as she played a set of twenty two songs for the audience who sang a long with every word. Performing songs she'd never or rarely performed live, including demos that never made an album, Swift gave an amazing show without a huge production. With just her guitar and microphone Swift played stripped down versions of songs such as 'Superman' and 'If This Was A Movie' from her third album 'Speak Now', 'I Almost Do' and 'Come Back... Be Here' from RED, and even 'Tied Together With a Smile' from her debut record. With a show tomorrow in Dublin at the O2.
Setlist:
Tied Together With A Smile
Invisible
The Sweet Escape (Gwen Stefani cover)
I Heart?
Breathe
Dark Blue Tennessee
The Best Day
Innocent
Superman
If This Was A Movie
Drops Of Jupiter (Train cover)
Bette Davis Eyes (Kim Carnes cover)
I Almost Do
Stay Stay Stay
The Last Time
Sad Beautiful Tragic / Loving The Wrong Way
Starlight
The Moment I Knew
Come Back… Be Here
Girl At Home
Flower (Kylie Minogue cover)
I Knew You Were Trouble//Swarovski (acoustic)

KREWELLA SPILLS ALL IN PRESS CONFERENCE
Jahan: Thank you so much for coming, we’ve got some exciting stuff to share today.
Yasmine: But before we get to the questions we just want to say that our label has signed us again, so that’s confirmed.
Kris: So let’s all have a seat and get this started.
Question: Are you scrapping the album ‘Never Wake Up’ and moving on to a different era?
Jahan: Thankfully, no. We’re going to complete the ‘Never Wake Up’ era.
Question: Since you’re continuing with the album, do you have any collaborations?
Kris: We have some great collaborations, I think about three, maybe four but we’re still working on the album.
Yasmine: The collaborations are so amazing, each collaborator we worked with has such a different style. You have a mainstream star, an overseas star, a duo, and another group. It’s really, just, I can’t even find the words to describe the collaborations.
Question: When are we going to get the second single?
Kris: The second single is coming out on Monday. It is indeed “Like It Loud”, our original choice which should’ve came out in September.
Question: Why would you continue the album?
Yasmine: This album is going to be our debut LP, and we want to make the most genuine debut LP possible. ‘Never Wake Up’ has brought us closer together as a group, as friends and as family. And listening to the music, it’s really a Spring/Summer album at heart. I think all the moves and the timing is definitely right.
Kris: Yeah, I completely agree, we’re just so passionate about this project. With “Never Wake Up” going Platinum, getting the music video and the performances, it just really had brought our vision to life, and we normally haven’t gotten fantastic treatment or support from our previous labels. Even Revolution Records mishandled the promotion a little bit, but they still had our backs 110% in terms of the quality and ideas of our project. That comes first 100%.
Question: Does the album have a date set yet?
Jahan: Yes, but, we’re not going to say anything about that yet.
Kris: Although it took us forever to move onto “Like It Loud”, even from July to September, this album transition will come sooner than the Krew expects.
Question: Can you give us an exclusive on the album?
Yasmine: Well, we can give you an exclusive on our new single, “Like It Loud”. It’s one of our most hardcore Electronic songs, especially the chorus. It’s just so hardcore, and it’s so lively. I think Radio will pick it up much better than “Never Wake Up”, and it’s definitely a great single to re-introduce us to the public.
Kris: It’s actually one of my favorites from the album. “Like It Loud” just goes back to our roots, which is why I love it. I think the Krew is going to go absolutely nuts over it. It’s classic Krewella.
Question: A tour has never been announced last year, are there plans for one in the future?
Jahan: Right now touring is something we have not really taken much thought into. At this point we’re still working on the album, just wrapping it up and re-working a lot of things here and there. We still have to do one song from scratch, and decide on some Remixes for a Deluxe Edition.
Yasmine: Yeah, we’ve teamed up with some of our inspirations for this album to co-produce with us. The album is very organic, and true to our artistry with hints of Pop crossover hits here and there for fun. The collaborations have definitely helped us explore more branches of Pop music which was great for songwriting, etc. But back to the real question of course, I think we’d love to do a tour, but we’ll discuss that with our label as soon as the album’s finished.
Question: Is there any chance we’ll get snippets of the album along the way?
Jahan: We’ve put lots of thought into that actually. Our fans haven’t heard new music in the longest ****ing time. So it’s a huge struggle right now. Do we drop some teasers for the sake of the length of our hiatus, or do we unleash it with a long wait where it all the wait will be worth it? It’s a tough decision, but I think we’ll find a way to make both happen.
Question: Even after the Revolution Records hiatus, you’ve worked with many Revolution Records artists. Do you think you’ll produce for others?
Kris: I personally love to co-produce for other artists, especially label mates. When you develop a genuine connection with your collaborators, it also takes the music to another level. And it’s a great way to get some exposure, meet some new people. If we ever got the chance to do it again, we’d say ‘yes’ most likely without a heartbeat.
Question: Any final words before you go?
Yasmine: Yes, you can catch us on KIIS FM tomorrow with the Radio Premiere of “Like It Loud”. It gets officially released on Monday, and yeah! A lyric video will come Tuesday, followed by lots more cool stuff.
Jahan: Stick around for more!
Kris: Thank you all for coming!
The press conference made Krewella trend on Twitter all day, along with Like It Loud and Never Wake Up. With Krewella’s fanbase thinking they’d never see this day come, they’ve been beaming with joy. Revolution Records has also updated their website to promote Krewella on the front page of their website. “Like It Loud” is set to be released Monday, so stay tuned for more!
