Public bathrooms disgust me but I'm not going to lick a toilet seat and call it art! A lot of things are disgusting. Just because someone calls something art doesn't mean another person has to believe it is. That's why it's subjective.
this post epitomizes narrow-mindedness. the discussion is open to debate as to whether or not you PERSONALLY feel as if the performance was artistic. in my opinion, art is in the eyes of the beholder. and, in my eyes, what she did on that stage was not art. you are more than welcome to hold your own opinion and to disagree, but to totally dismiss someone else's beliefs just because they don't coincide with your own is downright ignorant.

But it's not interesting art. Once the shock value wears off what does it say? Does it move you? It's just the type of art that uses the ridiculous to incite a response instead of relying on... anything else.

Also, people didn't create art to sell their work. They made art cause they loved it, felt it and wanted people to see it. Not because they wanted their sketch book to sell 3M copies by the end of the year. Vomiting is not art. It is a bodily function. Next, she's gonna **** on stage and y'all are gonna eat it up.

Vomiting is revolting, It's dirty, it stinks, it's not pretty, it's not nice to watch or look at. Rape is all of those things as well, and while she's being thrown around on a mechanical pig and strobe lights flash. These things aren't handed to you, attempt some brain power before dismissing it.

The "Is it art?" debate has been happening for hundreds of years. Unfortunately nowadays it seems mostly that those questions are posed to post-Dadaist attempts to shock people and/or by using the lowest common denominator with so very little artistic talent that people automatically question the art's validity.
Someone vomitting on Gaga is art if she wants it to be. But it's not brilliant in the slightest. These types of artistic muscle flexing are kind of pathetic to still be happening in 2014. Can't any artist come up with a new concept? (I'm asking this rhetorically and as a real question because I would love to hear of some new artists that are truly pushing art forward.)
