Phoebe Tonkin, who is known for her appearances on TV shows and movies, after the TV drama The Secret Circle ended, thought that she will be forced to move back to the home country Australia and become a local TV star. Now, the fresh new artist in the music's industry is one of the most wanted acts to perform at various festivals, and her second single - Midsummer Days - just proves, that she is here to stay by debuting in second place on this week's CAL charts. Three years ago, the Aussie singer, songwriter and actress was figuring out the way how to break out in United States as an actress, trying to get some roles and sign contracts with bigger managements, and now, Phoebe has it all - she is the new it girl in the music's industry, her album is one of the most anticipated albums in 2014, her singles are getting all of the attention, and she also poses for magazine covers as a model as well. Do we need to add the fact that she won two CAL Debut Awards only with one single out? With everything this girl does, Phoebe just proves that she is one to watch.
'I've never thought that I will be a singer. Everything was just natural for me - as a kid, my music teacher told me that I sang too loud, so since then, I had this insecurity and never actually sang loudly, or just for my own hobby. I've never thought that I will be releasing my singles under one of the most successful labels out there right now. And it is still so surreal. I mean, back in the spring 2013, when I was writing some little songs in my notebook, I didn't think that I might get noticed by a major label. Though, back then, I thought my songs were silly and I was hiding them from anyone, until my friend discovered about this, filmed a video of how I am singing and sent that video to Indigo Records. And then, everything just happened - I released a single, I released video, I started promoting, and look, I'm covering Billboard magazine. It is... amazing. Amazing, and still so surreal.'
When Billboard asks Phoebe about giving her songs to other artists, she just smiles and thinks about the answer for a bit: 'Well, some people actually offered me to sign a contract that would mean I could give away songs that I've written to other artists, but I don't know yet. I mean, I know my songwriting is good, but I don't think the songs that I've wrote could work with other artists, because I wrote them based on myself, on my own story, on my own issues and goals, and it just wouldn't work with other artists. I know, it's a weird thing to say and some people won't get it saying that I could make money this way as well, but if you're not a songwriter, you won't understand the meaning of my words. But I could definately get into studio with someone and help them out by co-wroting their songs. Maybe someday, but not know.'
Soon after the release of this week's chart, were Taylor Swift's new single "Loving the Wrong Way" topped with 315,000 copies sold and Paige Elliot debuted at #3 with "S/E/X", which sold 300,000, the two girls revealed their latest single, due to release tomorrow, March 9, 2014.
"It's sort of an anti-love song," Taylor announced, with Paige by her side. "The song, named after the diamond and crystal manufacturer, is sort of saying love does have a price tag... And this certain man isn't worth what he's charging."
"In essence, we'd prefer some bling over love," Paige picked up, displaying a giant Swarovski-designed ring on her right index finger. "I mean, why would I want love and comfort from a man when I can just take a bath in a pool of diamonds? They look good, never wear out, and sure won't leave me... It's all jokes, in case Robert's listening to this."
Release date: March 9, 2014
Recorded: October 2013; Los Angeles, California, USA
Length: 5:17; 3:18 (Radio edit)
Genre: Electro, house, complextro, dance
Written by: Paige Brooklyn, Taylor Swift, David Vonikk & Angel Brooklyn
Produced by: Vonikk
The song is listed as a duet, with neither artist featuring the other. The song, which has been described as "an anti-love song" by Swift, features a largely electro production, ranging from a bass-heavy beat to a rather etheral, synth-based construction. It also features almost hateful lyrics, with Swift and Elliot bashing a lover, claiming they'd rather be on their own than be with him, unless he would be willing to shower them with gifts and riches.
The video is set to release some time this week, and has been confirmed to be entirely decorated in Swarovski designs, ranging from simple crystal artifacts to an entire dome covered in giant diamonds. A release for the production of the video stated that over $28,000,000 in lead crystal and diamonds were used just for decoration, though none of it was spent by the artists as it is all given for just the music video's use. The production stats also listed other donors to the music video, including: Alexander McQueen Fashion House, Gianni Versace S.p.A., Porsche Automobil Holding, and even a personal donation from Cher. The donated objects are unconfirmed, but the list continues on.
The song, which officially releases tomorrow, has already been uploaded to both artist's YouTube pages and official websites. It's been sent to radios, and is set to begin playing tomorrow, the official radio debut being at 11:00 AM on KIIS FM.
I don't need a man to justify my love
Perfectly fine getting off to my own touch
My aspiration in life doesn't involve a man
Who forces me to fit into his own plans
Perfectly content with being the lonely one
I'm just a girl who seeks an expensive rush
I need some bling to light up my life
So, baby, just give me what I want
CHORUS: 0:45 - 1:14 [Taylor]:
I don't need a man to justify my love
Perfectly fine getting off to my own touch
My aspiration in life doesn't involve a man
Who forces me to fit into his own plans [Paige]:
Perfectly content with being the lonely one
I'm just a girl who seeks an expensive rush
I need some bling to light up my life
So, baby, just give me what I want
VERSE: 2:00 - 2:30 [Paige]:
I don't want to feel the love here tonight
Sweating out the pain in the neon lights
I'm sure what you heard isn't a lie
For me, there's some things you gotta buy [Taylor]:
You want to get to see the girl I hide
But she's chained up back at home
And she's guarded by dignity tonight
Your love isn't something in her sights [Paige]:
For some bling, I can be your slave
Obeying for all the gifts you gave [Taylor]:
Your love doesn't amount to much
The diamonds are all I want to touch
CHORUS: 3:00 - 3:29 [Paige]:
I don't need a man to justify my love
Perfectly fine getting off to my own touch
My aspiration in life doesn't involve a man
Who forces me to fit into his own plans [Taylor]:
Perfectly content with being the lonely one
I'm just a girl who seeks an expensive rush
I need some bling to light up my life
So, baby, just give me what I want
CHORUS: 4:15 - 4:44 [Both]:
I don't need a man to justify my love
Perfectly fine getting off to my own touch
My aspiration in life doesn't involve a man
Who forces me to fit into his own plans
Perfectly content with being the lonely one
I'm just a girl who seeks an expensive rush
I need some bling to light up my life
So, baby, just give me what I want
OUTRO: 4:45 - 4:59 [Taylor]:
Your love's wallet's running empty
And fun's reaching a new low [Paige]:
You don't have anything I need
So I guess it's time to go

If there's no strong objections I want to turn over control to Miles so I can participate like I've been itching to.
He'll be completely objective and all and was going to have most control over charts anyway, so nothing much will change. I swear on my modship that he'd make a better host than me and remain fair.
I'd also totally ban ha if he tried to be unfair just like I'd warn any of you so there's that.
And procedure of the game will not change under new direction either, the way it is right now seems to work just fine. I did my job - I got the season rolling.
