Fyi, I was just noting that K-Pop being labeled "trash pop" isn't needed when most of the perception of the pop genre (not really a genre - more like an umbrella term) is seen as "trash."

Hmm, Hip Hop has historically been marginalized and at times not even recognized as real "music" due in large part to the culture from which it developed and the audience demographic stereotypically associated with it.
Most people are quick to be dismissive of "pop music" (in the more narrow sense) as a whole due to social factors as well, because it's seen as music for girls and **** (neither of which are straight white males).
Moreover, a lot of people (consciously or unconsciously) subscribe to the idea that "quality" in art is limited to works/genres dealing in "serious" subject matter, which demonstrates a pretty shallow perspective in and of itself.
I agree with the second thing you said, though.
