For a ballad to be played on radio, it generally has to have a strong chorus and still be catchy. Skyfall isn't really catchy and is too slow for radio. It's kind of a boring song, although it is very good. I wouldn't want to hear it on Top 40 right after a song like Dark Horse or Talk Dirty, for example. Whereas hearing All of Me or Someone Like You after those two songs would be fine because AoY or SLY have very memorable melodies.

"Skyfall" flopped because the song is about nothing. It's just a collection of vaguely inspiring, us-against-the-world phrases that she had to write to fit the God-awful song title they gave her

Adele succeeds because her songs are about relationships that everyone can relate to. It's why "It Will Rain" succeeded for Bruno; it was a love song anyone could identify with in the vein of his previous material.

How is "Skyfall" "relatable"? It fits the theme of the movie, which is what it was made for.

It doesn't even have the Rhythmic sound or radio-friendly hooks that 21 singles had.

I think this is probably closest to the truth rather than anything about the sound of the song itself.

The chorus is memorable enough.
