Listen to "Superpower"
The lowdown: Gorgeously mixing doo wop romanticism and quiet storm intensity, Beyoncé sings about her marriage to Jay Z as though they are a superhero team—strong, resilient, invincible—an apt comparison for perhaps the most powerful celebrity couple on the planet. Many voters were bored by the song’s soft, wispy vibe, however. It becomes the first track eliminated from
Beyoncé, barely missing out on the top fifty.
ATRL says...: There's something about Frank! Everybody had to comment on Mr. Ocean. "A rather understated (and thus, forgettable) song that doesn't utilize Frank Ocean as effectively as it could have," wrote
JakeKills. "Frank Ocean has credits on the best standard track on
4, but this is no 'I Miss You,'" stated
August. "Maybe I'm biased because I also love Frank, but this is criminally underrated,"
Doogle said. "It doesn't have a lot going on in it but I don't understand why that's necessarily a bad thing."
helloDer was blunt: "It’s a shame this sucks. I love Bey and Frank so much."
bluth was harshest of all. "It goes nowhere. It literally just lingers around and does nothing," he seethed. "And I love Frank Ocean, but this is the equivalent of promising your kids a pet dog and then getting them old dog on it’s last legs. You’re promised the vivacity of a critically acclaimed album with a Frank Ocean feature on it, but when it arrives all it does is just sway around for a few minutes and linger like a bad odour."
Best bit: "And when I'm standing in this mirror/After all these years/What I'm viewing is a little different/From what your eyes show ya"
