It's one of the few snooze fests on the album, together with Dope
G.U.Y., Sexxx Dreams, and ARTPOP are the only songs that could save this album

I think GUY is a better choice. It is more captivating and sounds like TFM Gaga Gypsy would have been a good single if everything went as planned
I think
GUY
DWUW
Gypsy
would have been great for the first 3 singles

Now you know G.U.Y will underperform, the general public will just not eat that song up...It's kinda overrated. Gypsy, on the other hand, has potential on radio, relatable lyrics, mainstream appeal for the general public, could serve well for some acoustic stripped down piano performances, doesn't have off-putting lyrics, it's catchy and relatable...I believe it's an obvious choice.

I doubt it would have underperformed It is everything the public wanted from Gaga

It pisses me off that she didn't/hasn't yet made Gypsy the 3rd single.
It's not flawless, but it has a big chorus and has consistently resonated with people. It's pop/dance but has an almost country element that would appeal to the Timber/Wake Me Up fans. Given the right pushes, it could have at least been another DWUW and sustained the album campaign for another 4 months at least whilst she worked out the next moves.
A big Grammy and Brit performance, an acoustic version made available and performed on BBC Live Lounge to capitalise on the increased support after DWUW...an impressive and fun video...
But no.
Sexxx Dreams could have worked, too. It's also consistently been rated highly. Send a day edit to radio (X Dreams), do a sexy but classy video for it, a major Grammy performance with lots of dancers and maybe a surprise guest like Janet or capitalise on the Stevie-esque breakdown with Stevie herself etc.
G.U.Y doesn't have a strong enough hook IMO and is a bit too vanilla, and Venus is on the other side of the spectrum of being too much but at least it has strong enough hooks.

I am sure she didn't make Gypsy the 3rd single, tho it is a great song and actually a good single, it isn't strong enough to help her in this situation

This, so much. Gypsy could still be a hit, regardless. Isn't it the highest non-single on iTunes? And every time she performs it, it goes up about 200 spots. You can't go wrong with this song, you just can't.

My thoughts exactly. It's proven to have had an effect consistently and whilst it's campy, it's relevant to the Wake Me Up/Timber liking crowd whilst also being very strong pop.
G.U.Y is a wildcard. There's no real reason to believe it'll strike a chord, beyond fans liking it. It's not been tested (unless they've held listening sessions).
I'm more than happy to be proven wrong with it being a hit, though.

Interscope wanted Gypsy as the lead single and Gaga was kind of cool & happy with it until some **** happened and then it wasn't that clear. She was debating between Aura and Applause and with Troy, decided to go with Applause. She regret the choice too late (I think the week before the comeback), but by that time she couldn't change anything.
Any of the singles that were pushed back (Gypsy as the lead, Aura later and Venus as the 2nd) aren't going to be future singles. We know MTN was pushed as the final single in BTW because Gaga loved it, but Interscope aren't going to fall for that again, she (and her team) needs to make her decisions clear. Venus couldn't do a MTN this time, for example.
If we have another single after GUY, is going to be something from the SwineFEST selection I think. I don't see Gypsy, Venus or Aura happening in the future, sadly.

She said that because after SwineFest it was the fave choice from the fans. I don't think she was serious about that, I'm pretty sure that she considers anything she writes as a possible single, she probably planned videos for every song in the album in her mind, but SD wasn't going to be lead single, ever
