These lists make me sad. The decade isn't halfway over yet. We can still do better.

Madonna as an act is huge. Her tours and performances keep her being one of the biggest acts each decade IMO. Britney is still a big act. Lana, no.
But yeah, Katy should definitely be in the top 10.

Some of y'all forget there is a world outside of the hot 100, blogs, and TV/magazines.

Britney is a big act but not bigger than Katy since 2010, the year Teenage Dream was released. Since 2010, she's had two platinum albums (one multiplatinum) and eight #1s, and that's just in the US. Britney had Femme Fatale that saw some great success, but nothing compared to Katy.
Madonna's touring is hella impressive, I can buy that argument. Plus the Super Bowl.

But Katy has sold more albums and had a more successful tour as well?

Madonna is a legend but shes not going to be remembered for her work in the 2010s , shell forever be associated with the 80s/90s, despite her tours shes no where near the cultural relevance Katy has this decade. When we look back on this decade well think of Katy, when we think of Madonna we think 80s tbh

You should, since he's bigger than both Drake and Nicki

Here are my explanations on some notable omissions:
While Britney's "Femme Fatale" era was big, "Britney Jean" was a disappointment and she really fell off the radar.
Since JT's only been back in the game since just last year, I can't really give him much credit compared to the other acts.
Jay-Z's also been largely out of the limelight until last year. It's quite obvious that he hasn't really made the top 10 ATM.
Madonna may have had a huge tour, but it's the lack of chart success that's keeping her down.
Lana has good album sales, but she hasn't proven to have hit singles so far aside from SS.
The Cash Money crew are mostly local to the USA. Nicki's had some hit singles worldwide, but Wayne and Drake are mostly North American acts. Same with Kanye.
Chris Brown's been mostly a local singles act since his comeback.
Pitbull and Flo Rida have had the hits, but haven't really established superstardom as artists.
Macklemore, Imagine Dragons, and Lorde are having their first era; not to mention, the former two (particularly ID) are rather local.
P!nk doesn't have the same celebrity status as the other pop girls. I'd say she's probably just outside the list She's definitely top 10 in Australia though.
Miley was more of a headline grabber and social media star, but as an artist her sales this decade haven't been huge enough to put her on the list.

Madonna and Lana Del Rey are much more respected and admired from people I meet, friends, family, coworkers, classmates. People are obsessed with Lana. The GP spend $300 to see madonna in concert and I really believe Lana Del Rey is the biggest thing since Lady Gaga/Adele took off.

Ah, so this is one of those "well I hear people talk about her all the time" arguments. Numbers don't lie, so you're just coming off as pressed. Lana's talent has nothing to do with this. Katy has been much bigger in every way since 2010.

95% of the country don't buy music. Would it be fair to only count the teenagers who buy albums? I'm talking about people 21+ who know better than to waste $14 on CD's.
