Not really, I'm not running ha Rock type Gym or giving away ha badge.

Much as in the Pokemon series there can be hundreds of gyms out there, you can challenge any of them in any order as long as you get the number of badges you need.

If what you mean by joining is being a gym leader you have to wait till next season. But you can battle the current gym leaders to become the champion. Give it a go
