Not if you're a "pop" artist. Pop means nothing more than popular. If Gaga wants to remain a major pop girl, she has to learn how to ride the waves of constant change in music.
So it comes back to the fundamental fact that pop stars are just regurgitations of public taste. If Gaga wants to be an "artist", then she shouldn't feel obligated to change to whatever's popular.
Incidentally, this is exactly the reason why Rihanna's so popular. She is changed by her team to match popular taste and so always stays relevant. A better functioning Britney Spears.

That has been my feeling for a good while now. Combining ART and POP doesn't work, it has to be one or the other, and the sooner Gaga realises that the better.
What's interesting to me about these mixtape acts, is that they make great music without having the big name writers and producers, and then the pop girls have literally the most basic music in the world
