Her best guest will always be James Taylor. No way can you top performing with the person your named after.

If she goes full-on pop tho, can she at least go the Miley route and make it interesting?

Well what happened if the fans that have aged with you, abandoned the ship? You will keep re-starting every era? The answer is, She already did. Just look at the stans here.
Well written songs remain the most important. A little variation is needed surely. But Her material is varied enough already. It seems like you're the one who bought into the myths here.
Meh. Then why should you bother? They will keep doing it regardless what you said or how much She changes. Let them come on their own. It happened once with the one two punch that was Ours/Safe & Sound.

What i meant was, she won't sell the albums with the same stuff in 10 yeras. Of course, she's already had some great stuff as of today, she'll be remembered as a respected artist, but people just won't buy her albums, It's weird, but it's also very logical, very few of the respected artists of the past can still sell albums today.

Her keeping making teeny bopper music (which shes kinda stopped doing) is like trying to appeal to a new crowd every cycle.
Growing up with the fans (like me who was 12 when LP1 came out) instead of trying to appeal to 12-13 year old year after year is much better. Those 12-13 year olds will outgrow the teeny boppers and she'll have to appeal to the new batch of 12-13 year olds. Do you see where Im going with this?

I'm gon' keep it cute with Ellie. She suffers same syndrome like Taylor, doesn't cut it as pop girl, but flawfree in stripped down settings. But IA that the hype for ha appearance. <

Taylor will be a respected artist in the future regardless of today. Every artist who won some awards or who achieved something and who got some sort of recognition in the past becomes respected even if they sucked with their later albums. Taylor already got some recognition, even if she retires today, she'll be remembered as a great artist of the 2010s in 2040s or 2050s. People respect older people more.

But those people actually know about what they are talking about? Surely their opinions matter more than GP? Just lurk at Ilxor for example. Not in a million years people would put Her in the same sentence with KP?
People respect older people more? Tell that to Bon Jovi and the fads from yesteryears.

The thing is, WANEGBT, 22 etc seems like it should be titled We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (Feat. Max Martin)

Does she have that many young - mid 20 year old fans compared to tweens and teens?
I wonder if RED wouldve done well without the MM songs.

Older artists don't sell? They don't promote but most legends can sell up their with the majority of the pop girls and plus they don't really care bout album sales cause they sell out stadiums WW

I really hope she has been re thinking lp5 ever since the Grammys. Her and Scott need to refocus on making good music and less on the radio sales and stuff. Having huge sales is good but not while sacrificing quality and throwing in cheap generic pop beats. Anyways lp1 will always have a special place in my heart. I'll always think of taylor as the blonde curly hair gurl in her sundress and cowboy boots who is the girl that sings that tim mcgraw song

@Vine101: After Ours/Safe & Sound, people came around to Her. At my SN show, the one in Perth - MSG one was about equal (a nice mix of every age group), a lot of college aged ppl there. Then WANEGBT kind of "paused" the movement, but after the album came out, some actually willing to give it a spin and genuinely became fans.

You sure aware that Her album sales is on another level compared to Her peers, right?
And geez, it's only normal to wind down. They aged gracefully bb. You can't be on top forever.

Red could've been marketed in a completely different direction and could've gone completely differently.
If SoG, ATW, HG were the ones promoted to the level of the MM tracks who knows where her career would be

Taylor lost a lot of her singles power in the SN era so IKYWT and WANEGBT were necessary. Still I don't want her to make too many songs with MM as much as I love his contributions to Red. That being said WANEGBT is Taylor's most acclaimed single. I remember that it made several of the Pitchfork critics year end lists as did 22 weirdly enough.

I hated that she marketed RED like that

As Trigger said, she could've changed the direction of mainstream music but she was too afraid. I would've loved if Treacherous/State Of Grace were singles, even if they flopped tbh

Red would've been a SN 2.0 and with possibly the less debut week sales from the original Red (probably at the similar levels of SN) without those MM tracks. If you don't believe me, just look at the chart performance of Begin Again

Also i will really be glad if one day before she's middleaged she does a tour that's focused solely on the music, not the spectacle. Even if its to 4-5k people a night, it'd still be a superior tour.
I mean, Freakin Prince is in London and she brings out Ellie.
Up your game, girl. Its getting too much like a generic pop star.

I would prefer that, but I don't think she would. A nice medium would be the SNWT.
Red was over-produced, too scheduled and lacked the spontaneity of SN. Maybe that's just a rose-tinted glasses view but it felt like a lighter time. Everything about this era just seems go go go. :

I remember my older brother (22) liked Taylor during the Debut/Fearless era. I noticed after SN came out, he didnt like her at ALL.
This year we were watching the grammys and when she started playing, he called her "basic" because she's never done anything iconic and she's never changed. I told him all her achievements and he was like "Im not denying her talent, and she's gonna get better in a couple of years".
