There's a difference between hype among the general public and hype in music circles. For example, ARTPOP wasn't on the radar of the GP until Applause and even then... It didn't get the recognition it deserved.

As my fellow Barbz have posted, Nicki has the backing of music blogs + fans.

The GP doesn't keep track of what artists are doing before their albums come out, they only start caring when the single is released.

However there is plenty of hype for people who do know it's coming.
