Exactly. 1D was able to cultivate a worldwide fanbase while they were still in the UK thanks to the internet. People all around the world had access to their music, videos, interviews, etc at the click of a button. The fact that The Beatles blew up instantly when people didn't have the easy access to things back then goes to show how huge Beatlemania really was.
The boys may have drawn a larger crowd when they touched down in the US, but they also had nearly 50 years of technology on their side
