"Love Hangover"
"Upside Down"
"I'm Coming Out"
"Ain't No Mountain High Enough" - even though it remains in the shadow of the Marvin/Tammi version
"Reach Out And Touch"
And I've been listening to Diana for the past 13 years. Musically, her catalog of hits is not on Donna's level, not even close. Her best album, Diana, is nowhere near as good as Donna's magnum opus. Donna was a more progressive artist during her time, musically speaking. Whereas Diana's output lied in image. Two sides of the same coin. Yes, Diana is the bigger name because she kept working, but Donna is more important to the shaping of popular music. "I Feel Love" was the beginning of techno/dance/trance/etc music. "Love To Love You Baby" was the beginning of disco, and the maxi-single. They're both pioneers in their respective fields, but all encompassing, Donna is supreme.
No one uses Coming Out but the gays in the closet. Plus her version has been overshadowed by Biggie's more iconic "Mo Money, Mo Problems". Poor Diana stans.
Other way around. People seem to be dismissing Donna as a 70s fad and acting like Diana has had any enduring popularity outside of a few samples in hip-hop songs and a persistent rumor that she was a weird transgendered monster version of Michael Jackson.
So is everyone over BEYONCÉ yet?
We all agree it was never that good in retrospect right?
If so we would've realized about a month ago, after the initial impact
The smart people who actually analyzed and interpreted the album gave it critical acclaim
