Actually, she apologized the day after the incident in a statement and then two days later with the video. And those were just rumors of her being banned from the Grammys. Not sure about Viacom and Clearchannel. But I get why she "had" to apologize (she was releasing Damita Jo afterwards), it just didn't sell well with me.

Janet is not a Madonna. She's not an unapologetic person. She's quite timid and inoffensive by nature. She apologized, and refused to do it again. It ruined her career, but that was probably the most defiant she'd ever been. I don't see anything cowardly in her actions.
